Trefriw - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Trefriw (pronounced a little like 'Trev-roo', with the emphasis on the first syllable) is a village on the River Conwy in north Wales, lying a few miles south of the site of the Roman camp of Canovium, sited at Caerhun.
Evan Evans ("Ieuan Glan Geirionydd") was born at Trefriw in 1795, the son of a former shipwright.
As a result of the floods, Trefriw was one of the locations visited by Prince Charles in July 2004 as part of his annual summer tour of Wales.

Trefriw's village street runs north to south, roughly parallel with the course of the Conwy River, and is part of the B5106 country road from the ancient town of Conwy to the forest resort of Betws y Coed.
Trefriw has another very famous son, the fictional monk Brother Cadfael, (created by Ellis Peters,) supposedly born here in the days of Owain Gwynedd and Henry I in the early twelfth century.
The coming of industry turned Trefriw into a port, where the lead and slates brought down from the mines in the hills were loaded into boats and transported down the River Conwy to the sea.
