Trematoda - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Trematoda is a class within the phylum Platyhelminthes, which contains two groups of parasitic worms.
Previous classification systems included the Monogenea amongst the trematoda, alongside the Digenea and Aspidogastrea, on the basis that they were all vermiform parasites.
The taxonomy of the Platyhelminthes is being subjected to extensive revision thanks to modern phylogenetic studies, and modern sources place the Monogenea in a separate class within the phylum.

The trematodes are parasitic worms infecting all vertebrate groups and include families of significance to human and animal health, with considerable economic impact.
This book in three volumes, presents a detailed revision of the systematics and taxonomy of the platyhelminth class Trematoda, subclasses Aspidogastrea and Digenea, with keys for the identification of these parasites at the superfamily, family and subfamily and generic levels.
The third volume, due to be published in early 2006, will cover the remaining members of the Plagiorchiida.

Bothrigaster variolaris (Trematoda: Cyclocoelidae) infection in two Florida snail kites (Rostrhamus sociabilis plumbeus) -- Cole et al.
Two Florida snail kites (Rostrhamus sociabilis plumbeus, Say) collected in August and December 1993 from Osceola County (28 degrees 15'N, 81 degrees 17'W) and Glades County (26 degrees 45'N, 81 degrees 10'W), Florida (USA), respectively, were infected with Bothrigaster variolaris (Trematoda: Cyclocoelidae); this parasite has not been reported previously from birds in the United States.
One bird, a fledgling female, harbored 270 specimens of B. variolaris; the helminths caused airsacculitis and bronchitis, possible contributing factors in the death of this bird.
