Tremolo arm stabilizer for electric guitar - Patent 5522298
Tremolo arm stabilizers of the type with which this invention is concerned are known and are shown, for example, in U.S. Pat.
In a tremolo device, the strings of the associated guitar are attached, at their bottom ends, to an anchor plate or other anchor member pivotally moveable relative to the guitar body about a pivot axis extending transversely of the strings.
Usually the actuating arm is pivotally supported on the anchor member so as to be moveable between an active position at which it is located close to the strumming hand of the player and an inactive position at which it is remote from likely interference with the player's hand.

Tremolo - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tremolo is the rapid repetition of one note in music or a rapid alternation between two or more notes.
Tremolo on two or more notes is most frequently seen on the piano or other keyboard instruments.
In music notation, tremolo is indicated by strokes through the stems of the notes (in the case of semibreves or whole notes, which lack stems, the bars are drawn above or below the note, where the stem would be if there were one).

Use the tremolo arm to raise the tremolo and place the wedge (battery) in between the tremolo and the tremolo recess cavity to hold the tremolo while you're working.
The tremolo should be at an angle, but not dramatically (about 15 to 25 degrees) and the strings should be a bit looser.
The tremolo should still remain flush with the body and the strings should be in relative tune.

If the tremolo arm is pulled up, action decreases and strings may hit frets, making unwanted sounds.

The method and device incorporate the use of a tremolo device base plate anchoring means anchoring the tremolo device base plate to the face of the guitar at a tilt point in such manner that there is no movement allowed other than the normally desired tremolo tilting movement.
All tremolo devices, of whatever structure, have the common fault that immediately after use of the device, the guitar will be out of tune as compared to the tuning which existed immediately prior to the use of the tremolo device.
The tremolo arm 31 will frequently be swung out of position so it is out of the way at which point it is swiveled essentially to the outside of the playing area.

Half a Pica Distance: Because I'm All About the Guitar Pt. 12: The vibrato tremolo
A tremolo bridge holds the strings at the tail end of the guitar, usually has a tremolo arm and allows the guitar player to apply a varying degree of vibrato to a note or chord by using the arm to apply or relieve the tension on the strings.
Interestingly, what we call a "tremolo" is actually a "vibrato." Vibrato is a change in pitch where a tremolo is a change in volume.
It incorporates a spring loaded tremolo arm, or whammy bar that controls the tension of a bar that crosses all six strings.

edge pro tremolo arm and arm holder adjustment - Jemsite
Before I go messing with this piece of equipment, I want to verify that this adjustment is for when there is too much "play" in the arm when you try to bend the bridge up or down, as opposed to "arm rotation torque," which is supposedly adjusted by adding or removing bushings.
you have to carefully check if is the arm itself "moving" inside the arm-holder, or if is the arm-holder moving in it's place onto the baseplate.
A local setup guy told my trem arm is NOT too loose, but I can tighten it up if I want by taking the bushings off and putting nail polish or plumbers tape on the bar under the bushing.

 PRACTICING TREMOLO ON GUITAR (Guitar News Weekly #66, November 15, 1999 - (c) GuitarSite.com)
The tremolo bar on a guitar is a real strange effect that is very characteristic for the guitar.
Many guitarist are really amused by the bar that comes with the guitar, play with it for a while, and hardly ever use it again because they don't know how to really use it or stop using it because they can't really control the effect that well.
The arm will be a little difficult to screw in initially but once the first few turns are completed the string will be deformed into the worn thread and take up the slack, allowing the arm to move freely, but remain wherever it is placed.
