Christopher S. Tresco, the economics department system administrator who illegally traded and served commercial software from the computers he ran, was sentenced on Aug. 16 to 33 months in federal prison.
Tresco pleaded guilty on May 28 to federal conspiracy charges that he collaborated for 18 months with fellow members of the “DrinkOrDie” software-trading group to commit criminal copyright infringement for private financial gain.
Tresco, however, pleaded guilty to conspiring to infringe for financial gain.

 Tresco News : New Heliport Opens
The new heliport, located on the Tresco Estate close to the world-famous Tresco Abbey Garden, includes an under-cover waiting area, computerised reservation and ticketing facilities, electronic baggage checking and handling, crew rest room, toilets, catering facilities and a mother and baby room.
Alan Knight, general manager of the Tresco Estate, which operates the heliport, said: "We’re very pleased that the RDA has supported our project to upgrade our facilities, which will support businesses not just across the Isles of Scilly but also on the mainland as passengers travel through Cornwall to fly from Penzance.
Tresco Estate operates the heliport while British International operates the helicopter flights 12 months a year, six days a week.

Although Tresco, 23, has not been arrested or charged with a crime, Federal officials assert that he was a member of the secretive Internet software trading ring known as “DrinkOrDie” and that he used his system administration position at the Economics Department to illegally distribute software, The Boston Globe reported on Dec. 12.
Tresco’s post as the Economics Department system administrator may have been valuable to the ring, Schiller said, because of MIT’s high-speed connection, lack of firewalls, and the fact that, as system administrator, Tresco would have been in control of the file servers allegedly used to illegally distribute software.
Tresco resigned as of January 4, according to the MIT News Office.
