Somehow this error went entirely unnoticed at the time, and by 1858 the currency was changed, and the skilling stamps were replaced by new stamps denominated in (Click link for more info and facts about öre) öre.
As time passed, and no other "yellows" surfaced energetic searching, it became clear that the stamp was not only rare, but quite possibly the only surviving example.

The three-skilling stamp, known as the Treskilling Yellow, was issued in 1855, and used in 1857 to mail a letter.
Høiland said he's mailing the stamp from New York to Arizona because he and an associate are staying in New York for a couple of days, "and for enjoying ourselves, it's more safe to send it." The stamp spent the night in a vault at the main post office.
The Treskilling Yellow has been subjected to several scientific analyses, the most recent about a decade ago, which have judged it to be a genuine misprint.
