El conjunto de estos rasgos culturales, deja en Trevelin una impronta que es claramente apreciable en la arquitectura de algunas viviendas, las antiguas capillas galesas y las actividades culturales como los encuentros de coros, y el Eisteddfod, certamen de poetas que tradicionalmente el pueblo galés realiza hace varios siglos.

The history of Trevelin starts during mid XIX century when the Argentine government made an invitation to any European community who wished to settle in Patagonia, since the attempts to conquer the wilderness became harder and harder.
The answer was that on 28th July 1865, a group of 153 Welsh immigrants who performed different tasks, such as farmers, miners, carpenters, etc., arrived to the coast of Puerto Madryn on board of the ship "Mimosa".
In 1916 the first thelephone net was installed in the colony, and in 1918 a society headed by Evans bought a mill with a capacity to mill 600 kilograms of flour a day.

It was renamed Trevelin (from Trefelin, the Welsh for "mill town") after the first mill, known as "Los Andes", was established there by John Evans in 1889.
