Treveri - Biocrawler   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The Treveri tribe of Gaul inhabited the lower valley of the Moselle, within the southern fringes of the vast Arduenna Silva (Ardennes Forest).
After Caesar's successful campaigns in Gaul, the Treveri were forcefully integrated into the Roman Empire, thereby losing not only their political independence but their cultural identity as well.
Following the failure of the uprising of 54/53 B.C. the leading families of the Treveri are reported to have crossed the Rhine, to settle among the Germanic tribes.

Tutor, having augmented the army of the Treveri with fresh levies from the Vangiones, the Caeracates, and the Triboci, strengthened it with a force of veteran infantry and cavalry, men from the legions whom he had either corrupted by promises or overborne by intimidation.
The Treveri were panicstricken by this disaster, and the common people threw down their arms, and dispersed themselves through the country.
The territory of the Treveri was occupied by the victorious army, when Civilis and Classicus sent letters to Cerialis, the purport of which was as follows: "Vespasian, though the news is suppressed, is dead.

This proximity to the Germanic tribes made them, in the opinion of Julius Caesar, the most German of the Gallic nations; they were also reported to be the bravest and most talented horsemen.
Because of their fierce independence, the Treveri were difficult clients for Rome as they could be found in the thick of virtually every major revolt.
Under the occupation of Rome, the Treveri supplied levies of auxiliaries to serve in the legions but continued to take part in movements against the Romans.

At Rome meanwhile people said that it was not only the Treveri and Aedui who had revolted, but sixty-four states of Gaul with the Germans in alliance, while Spain too was disaffected; anything in fact was believed, with rumour's usual exaggeration.
All good men were saddened by anxiety for the country, but many in their loathing of the present system and eagerness for change, rejoiced at their very perils and exclaimed against Tiberius for giving attention amid such political convulsions to the calumnies of informers.
Silius, on the one hand, though confident hope took away any need for encouragement, exclaimed again and again that it was a shame to the conquerors of Germany to have to be led against Gauls, as against an enemy.

LTG: Profession News - Ranger Signaling
As a result: I see, (I haven't decided, I'm leaving that up to you.) Rangers see, "Treveri signs, "Go Northeast." Non-Rangers see, "Treveri waves his hand forward and points northeast." Here's the limitations: A) We are limited to a 9 word string.
In fact, if we wanted, we could do it so that NO RANGER understand the signals, and all the Ranger sees is the signs, and not the words.
But before you go there, understand, that it *IS* fun to be able to sign "three", which and all the non-Rangers see, "Treveri holds up three fingers." or to sign "Stop" and non-rangers see "Treveri holds up his palm." Finally we need to decide if we want to duplicate word usage.
