Sir Trevor David Brooking, CBE (born 1948 in Barking) is a football player turned manager, pundit and administrator.
Brooking was one of the most intelligent and cerebral footballers of his generation (he left Ilford County High School with 11 O-levels and 2 A-levels), and had a very clean disciplinary record.
Brooking was Chair of the Eastern Region Council for Sport and Recreation from 1987 until 1997, and between 1999 and 2002 he was chairman of Sport England.

The appointment of Trevor Brooking to oversee the development of football in this country is long overdue and needs to be commended.
Trevor's reward for having been a peerless footballer with a wonderfully equable temperament would be to spend a lot of time either in mid-air or on the floor, courtesy of unscrupulous opponents who got to him as soon as they could.
Trevor Brooking's appointment as the FA's director of footballing development should carry both those hallmarks.

Allardyce insists that Brooking does not have the qualifications to hold such a position and he also claims he is echoing the sentiments of the other Premiership managers.

"Trevor has more than one role to play and the job was held on a full-time basis by Howard Wilkinson, who made huge improvements at grass roots and youth level, technically, and in introducing basic standards in terms of facilities and coaching qualifications," Allardyce said.
