Trevor Jones is perhaps one of the most diverse film composers of modern cinema.
Perhaps his diversity lies in the fact that, unlike other composers, Jones was not inspired by what he heard during his early years of soaking in cinema, but what he didn't hear.
Through the remainder of the 1970s and into the '80s, Jones worked frequently in film and television, and it was his work on an Irish television series that brought Jones to the attention of filmmaker John Boorman.

The Dark Crystal Music composed by Trevor Jones : Film Music on the Web CD Reviews June 2003   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
There are few composers better suited to scoring fantasy than Trevor Jones, his career so far spanning the excellent 1979 short, The Black Angel through the mini-series Dinotopia (2002) and this year’s The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
The three are united by the wonderfully evocative sound-worlds of Trevor Jones, musical landscapes which do much to complete the illusion of an entire fantastical realm existing beyond the confines of both the screen and the screenplay.
Jones wrote for large orchestra and choir, as well as for ethnic and medieval instruments (such as the double-flageolet), as well as for a specially designed pallet of some 300 custom designed electronic sounds realised with Fairlight, Synclavier and Prophet 5.

Jones also has a flair for the fantastic, as evidenced by his magical scores to The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and TV’s “Merlin” and “Gulliver’s Travels.”; What these soundtracks have in common is a clear melodic voice, a sense of musical exploration that has yet to descend into apathy.

The greatest strength of Jones’ soundtrack is its ability to maintain a high level of tension for extended periods without becoming tedious.
Jones does what he can to keep us interested, but the score does little to captivate us; we are far more interested in the politics and O’Donnell’s relationship with the Kennedys, which is very engaging.

Filmtracks: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (Trevor Jones)
For Trevor Jones, this disastrous cinematic event was an extreme disappointment, for he had not produced a major, interesting score since From Hell.
This is partially incorrect; Jones does offer a two-bar, eleven-note brass theme several times in the score, sometimes with great crescendos, but unfortunately this theme was lost in a poor mixing job in the film itself.
Thus, while Jones was attempting to score the League as a whole, the personality of each individual talent in the group is musically neglected.

Around the World in 80 Days - Trevor Jones   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
However, the prospect of Trevor Jones applying his maturing and engrossing style to a family adventure is still a good one, even if the results don't quite match the hope, we're still left with an appealing and engaging album.
Few films are lucky enough to have an Overture, but Jones indulges us, introducing his rousing, if not desperately memorable theme (but it does grow on you, as is often the case with Jones' melodies of late) which bristles its way through five minutes of aural delight that would be an ideal compilation cue.
Jones just about keeps his own musical head above water, but it wouldn't be unreasonable to suspect strong director/studio influence on his choices.

 Thirteen Days by Trevor Jones
Trevor Jones' score for the political drama, Thirteen Days, which portrays the frightful days of the Cuban Missile Crisis, might be the single, most satisfying soundtrack released during the lucrative holiday season of 2000, yet this gem of a score only found its way into my collection in the first week of January 2001.
It is likely that there are many who still have heard very little about this soundtrack, but slowly, surely, the accolades of Trevor Jones' latest effort should begin echoing throughout the film music community.
Jones' main theme has been carefully placed at the beginning, middle and end of the soundtrack, making it memorable without overuse.
