Triacetate fiber was first synthesized in 1950 and began to be commercially produced in the United States a few years later.
Derived from cellulose, triacetate is formed by combining cellulose with acetate from acetic acid and acetate anhydride.
Due to its no-fuss care requirements and its shape retention capabilities, triacetate fiber is frequently found in blouses, skirts, pants, and special occasion apparel, as well as draperies and upholstery.

Triacetate Fiber - Triacetate Staple Fiber, Triacetate Filter Tow Fiber, Triacetate Textile Filament Fiber
Triacetate is derived from cellulose by combining cellulose with acetate from acetic acid and acetate anhydride.
The cellulose acetate is dissolved in a mixture of methylene chloride and methanol for spinning.
As the filaments emerge from the spinneret the solvent is evaporated in warm air — dry spinning —; leaving a fiber of almost pure cellulose acetate.

According to the companies, the new triacetate and triacetate-blended woven fabric collection is aimed at women’s wear, men’s wear and home fashions end-use areas.
Celanese triacetate is a manufactured filament fiber produced from cellulose triacetate in which at least 92 percent of the hydroxyl groups are acetylated during the fiber-making process.
Celanese Acetate says that the noticeable and marketable differences between triacetate and acetate is that triacetate embodies a thermal memory and can be dyed with higher-energy dyestuffs at higher temperatures, and can be heat-set for thermal stability.

ICF Industries Inc - Yarn Guide T
Triacetate Fiber: A man-made fiber produced from cellulose triacetate in the forms of filament yarn, staple, and tow.
Cellulose triacetate fiber differs from acetate fiber in that during its manufacture the cellulose is completely acetylated whereas regular acetate, which is diacetate, is only partially acetylated.
Triacetate fabrics which have been properly heat-set (usually after dyeing) have improved ease-of-care characteristics because of a change in the crystalline structure of the fiber.

Method of making asymmetric cellulose triacetate membranes - Patent 4026978
These high-rejection, asymmetric, cellulose triacetate membranes can be cast from solutions containing at least 11 weight percent of cellulose triacetate dissolved in a mixture of dioxane and acetone with a ratio of dioxane to acetone at least about 1.5 to 1.
One commercial test is that cellulose triacetate is soluble in chloroform while cellulose diacetate is not; on the other hand, cellulose diacetate is soluble in acetone while cellulose triacetate is not.
Because of its limited solubility, cellulose triacetate has not found a great number of commercial applications, and likewise cellulose triacetate has not heretofore proved to be useful for producing commercially suitable asymmetric semipermeable membranes for reverse osmosis separation processes.
