	Triakel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		Triakel: from left to right, Janne Strömstedt, Emma Härdelin and Kjell-Erik Eriksson.
		Härdelin later on joined the newly-formed band as the singer, and the name "Triakel" (a kind of sweet, fl liquorice in the Swedish dialect of Jämtland) was chosen after a long discussion.

		Indeed, it was her arrival that helped give the band its name, as Triakel is a sweet fl licorice, which Eriksson realized suited their music with its dark mood and sweet voice.
		For what was essentially a side project, it quickly took on a life of its own as the band toured, not only in Nordic countries, but around the world.

		Oh, those Swedish meatballs: ABBA, Ace of Base and now Triakel.
		Primarily utilizing the harmonium and the fiddle in their traditional minimalism, Triakel do a fair job of capturing some late-night, bear-rug cuddle for the new-age set -- but it would be hard not to, considering the simplicity of long notes and slight yodeling.
		Not strictly a Christmas album, "Wintersongs" is an attempt at capturing the spirit of a full season in a small country.

		I'm glad to have started the review season with Triakel's Wintersongs, because it is a CD that can be heard in September without really thinking about Christmas at all, if one felt so inclined.
		Since all of the songs are sung in Swedish by Triakel's Emma Härdelin, I was unable to experience the work in the fullest sense and had to settle for forming impressions based the arrangements, the vocals, and the feelings these evoked.
		At times accompanied by ABBA's Benny Andersson on accordion, Triakel performs a serious, though not somber, set of tunes with which to usher in Winter's chill.
