Feds Want June Start for Lay Fraud Trial
A sweeping conspiracy and fraud case against Lay, former Enron CEO Jeffrey Skilling and former top accountant Richard Causey in a sweeping conspiracy and fraud case, is scheduled for January.
The judge granted that request on the bank-related charges pertaining to Lay's personal finances — one count of bank fraud and three counts of lying to banks — but left him lumped in with Skilling and Causey in the larger conspiracy and fraud case.
In a court filing, prosecutors argued that it would be in the public interest for Lay to be tried soon on charges he lied to banks about using loans to buy Enron stock on margin.

 Ken Lay's Miracle Worker - Forbes.com
Ramsey said he wants a quick trial, and that Lay's should be separate from, and prior to former CEO Jeffrey Skilling's, though he basically acknowledged he has no right to either.
When Durst was acquitted in a Texas state court it was a shocker, and standing by his side was Michael Ramsey, the same lawyer now leading the defense of Kenneth Lay, the former Enron chief executive and chairman indicted yesterday in a Houston federal court on conspiracy, securities fraud and bank fraud charges.
Though Ramsey was quite wrong two weeks ago when he predicted his client would not be indicted at all--the charges must be quite a shock--he also has one other stunning verdict to his credit: In 1997 he represented a bookmaker named Robert Angleton who was accused of hiring his brother to murder his estranged wife.
