Tribal Councils are required to incorporate under provincial or federal legislation and must maintain their corporate affairs in good standing to be eligible for continued funding.
Tribal Councils are primarily accountable to member First Nations and exercise flexibility in managing the delivery of advisory services or programs, consistent with the department's responsibility to account for public funds.

 State: Tribal Council ousts chief
In an extraordinary move, the Seminole Tribal Council stripped Billie of his authority as tribal chairman, immediately removed him from the tribe's payroll and suspended him indefinitely.
The Tribal Council, with Mitchell Cypress acting as chairman, declared that Billie's suspension would last at least until the O'Donnell lawsuit is resolved and until the results of a special audit of tribal finances are in.
Tribal Council members were rankled by reports that Cox had taken a $500,000 consulting fee from the developers of the tribe's $410-million Hard Rock Cafe-Hotel Casino project in Tampa and Hollywood and by Billie's insistence that the tribe shell out $50-million for a new 19-seat Gulfstream V corporate jet.

 The Mohegan Tribe: Government - Tribal Council
The nine-member Tribal Council, elected for four-year staggered terms effective October 2005, has all executive and legislative responsibilities of the Tribe not granted to the Council of Elders pursuant to the Tribe's Constitution.
She was one of the group of Tribal members who led efforts to formalize the Tribe's first Constitution, and was involved in both the federal recognition effort and the effort to establish the Connecticut Indian Affairs Council.
Her lifelong commitment to Tribal life began when she was eight years old and served as a guide at the museum run by her family, the Tantaquidgeon Indian Museum.

 LUMBEE TRIBE OF NORTH CAROLINA
If the challenged tribal ordinance is not rescinded or substantively altered by the Tribal Council, the Petitioner's Committee shall have thirty (30) days from their receipt of notice of Tribal Council action to collect additional signatures upon their petition for a referendum on the challenged tribal ordinance.
The Tribal Council shall periodically publish in a newspaper of general distribution in Lumbee territory a calendar of proceedings showing all council actions taken and the address and phone number where copies of ordinances are available.
The first Tribal Council elected under this Constitution shall adopt an ordinance proscribing conflicts of interests in the performance of duties by elected and appointed tribal officials, which ordinance shall require a tribal official to recuse him or herself from any decision or vote affecting his or her pecuniary interest or a family member.

TAHLEQUAH - The Cherokee Nation Tribal Council unanimously selected Ralph Keen II to fill the seat vacated by the untimely death of Harold “Jiggs” Phillips, then Keen joined the rest of the Council unanimously setting aside $4 million from tribal gaming revenues to build a new multi-purpose gym at Sequoyah High School.
Smith urged the Council to consider using matching funds from the Bureau of Indian Affairs to help complete the project, thus saving half the proposed construction money to be used for direct services while still building a top-notch facility at Sequoyah.
The Council Chambers, packed with Sequoyah parents, teachers, staff, alumni and students, erupted in applause when the legislation setting aside future gaming dividends passed unanimously.

The Council unanimously approved the nomination of Darrell Dowty as a Justice of the Judicial Appeals Tribunal and nominations of Rick Doherty and Jim Briggs as members of the Cherokee Nation Election Commission.
