Tribe of Dan - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Tribe of Dan (דָּן "Judge", Standard Hebrew Dan, Tiberian Hebrew Dān) is one of the Hebrew tribes, which the Bible claims was founded by Dan, son of Jacob and Bilhah, Rachel's maidservant (Genesis 30:4).
The tribe originally settled in the central coastal area of the Promised Land (Joshua 19), in proximity to the area controlled by the Philistines.
When Jeroboam led the revolt of the northern tribes and established the Kingdom of Israel, Dan was one of the tribes in it, and so would count as one of the Lost Tribes exiled by the Assyrians.

Why Is the Tribe of Dan Not Mentioned in Revelation 7:4-8? :: Library :: Bible Tools
The tribe of Dan as a whole was guilty of gross idolatry—even to the point of stealing the idols they used to practice their religion (Judges 18:14-31).
Jewish tradition says that Dan was the first tribe to follow Jeroboam into his sin of idolatry, and in their literature, the term "Dan" is often used to represent idolatry.
From this summarized history of the tribe of Dan, it becomes obvious why Dan would not be among the 144,000 "servants of our God," as they are called in Revelation 7:3.

Why is the tribe of Dan not mentioned in the book of Revelation? - at BibleStudy.org   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Because the tribes are enumerated so specifically, it's hard to accept the notion it refers to people who are merely spiritual Israel, and the church in general.
Dan was one of these tribes, but that doesn't explain its omission since all the other tribes of the northern kingdom get mentioned somehow.
Another idea to explain Dan's omission is that Dan, situated on the northern border of the area given to Israel, was very slack about driving out the pagan Canaanites in their midst.

A: Thank you for your question concerning the absence of the tribe of Dan in Revelation 7.
All of this is found in 1Kings 12, and verse 30 says, “And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.” Dan, then, became the center of pagan worship for the 10 tribes in the north.
What we learn from all of this is that Dan was the first tribe to practice idolatry, and their history was dominated by graven images.
