 Triborough Bridge (I-278)
The Triborough Bridge is not simply a single span, but rather is a complex comprised of three long-span bridges, a number of smaller bridges and viaducts, fourteen miles of approach highways and parkways, parks and recreational facilities, and administrative offices for the Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority.
In 1933, Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia appointed Moses as the chairman of the Triborough Bridge Authority.
Part of the bridge's dead and live load is transferred to the ground through the strut post of the cable-bent, while the remainder of the force is sent through the anchorages.

MTA Bridges and Tunnels
Largest among the nation's bridge and tunnel toll authorities in terms of traffic volume, MTA Bridges and Tunnels serves more than a million people daily in the New York metropolitan area.
Bridges and Tunnels evolved from the Triborough Bridge Authority, a public benefit corporation created by the New York State Legislature in 1933 to build the Triborough Bridge when the city's attempts were halted by the Depression.
The authority's bridges and tunnels forged vital links among the city's boroughs, ultimately shaping regional travel and economic patterns.

 Bluejake: May 18, 2003 - May 24, 2003 Archives
The Triboro Bridge is largely a mystery to me. Connecting the boroughs of Manhattan, Queens, and the Bronx, and crossing Randall/Ward Island, the Triboro seems remote from my daily life.
At the midpoint of the bridge there was an amazing view of the Hell's Gate Bridge and the Bronx- I took it all in for ten minutes- traffic was at a dead stop on the bridge the whole time and I waved to a couple of cars.
There was no way to exit the bridge until the path terminated at the northern end of the Island, so I skated that way and then down on to the service road.

It's hard to find a Triboro shield sign in good shape that's also reachable, so I had to settle for this specimen from the Whitestone Expwy service road and 14th Avenue.
Despite the sign's insistence, nobody in NY ever spells the name of this bridge so formally, Even the newer green overhead directionals call it "Triboro".
I wouldn't be surprised if some people, upon seeing this sign, might think it points to a different bridge than the familiar "Triboro" that they're looking for.
