In some games, such as Bridge, the lead to the first trick (the opening lead) is made by the player next in rotation after the contractor, so that the contractor plays last to that trick.

With six or more players, the game can be played with two decks combined or with a 63-card deck from six-player 500.

 Card Games: Trick Taking Games
Games without trumps: the aim is to win tricks, a trick being won by the highest card played of the suit led, but there is no trump suit.
Point trick games are so called because the cards have point values, and the result is determined not by the number of tricks taken, but by the total point value of cards taken.
I have grouped the point trick games mainly according to the ranking and point values of the cards (and combinations); this is also a good indicator of which games are hitorically related.

The optimal game to leave for your last call is Fantan, because near the end of the game, players look for any excuse to double dealers who might have been forced to call a game that is grossly unsuitable for the hand dealt.
Losing Tricks Losing tricks hands are harder to come by than queens hands but the penalty for calling losing tricks with an inadequate hand tends to be somewhat lower at worst than it is for queens.

 Dia de los Meurtos Review
Spared the tedium of card counting, and considering that only 24 tricks are taken during the entire game (compare to the 26 tricks taken in just the first two hands of hearts), you may expect a game of Muertos to cruise by at a respectable clip.
Someone leads the first trick, and each other person now plays any card from their hand with one crucial restriction: once a card of a given color appears in a trick, no further cards of that color may be played (but black—it's not technically a color, you know—is always an option).
A player who discards a card instead of playing to a trick, for instance, has just announced that his remaining cards are not black and in colors that have already appeared in the trick.

The core of the game is a 50-card deck corresponding to the states of the USA, each showing a map of the state, its rank (1st to 50th) in size, population and "statehood" (date at which it became a state of the USA), its capital, three largest cities, bordering states, state flower and state bird.
This is one of the earliest commercial games basaed on the traditional game of Eights.
Several games for these cards are offered; for example in New Word, players take turns to make the highest scoring word they can from the cards in their hand together with those left on the table from the previous play, unused table cards being discarded after each turn.

Gambling Guide > Cards > Card Games > Trick-Taking Games
Trick-taking games are card games in which play is divided into multiple rounds called tricks, during which each player plays one card from his hand, and the rules of the game determine which player wins that trick based on the cards played.
A common feature of trick-taking games is the concept of following suit, in which each player is constrained in which card he may play by the obligation to match the suit of the first card played in that trick, called the lead, if he can.
The object of such games varies; it is often to win the most tricks, but it may instead be to avoid winning tricks, to win exactly a certain number of tricks, or to acquire (or not acquire) certain cards.
