Holy Roman Catholic Apostolic Church - Tridentine Mass & Popes
The Tridentine Mass is a term used for Mass celebrated in Latin in accordance with the successive forms of the Roman Missal from its December 5 1570 promulgation by Pope Pius V, implementing a decision of the General Council, held in Trent, Italy.
Tridentine is the adjectival form of Trent, through its repeated revisions by later Popes, especially in 1604, 1634, 1888, 1920, 1955 and 1962.
In addition to "Tridentine Mass," traditionalist Catholics use the terms "Ancient Mass," "Traditional Mass," etc., because Pope Pius V's revision of the Roman Missal had as one of its declared aims restoration of the Missal "to the original form and rite of the holy Fathers", an aim not in fact achieved (see Pre-Tridentine Mass).

The name "Tridentine" is derived from the Council of Trent, which was convoked in the mid-sixteenth century in response to the Protestant Revolt.
With the exception of minor modifications, the Tridentine rite was essentially the rite used throughout the western Church until the introduction of the new Missal of Pope Paul VI in 1970 following the Second Vatican Council.
The Tridentine Mass is celebrated in the official language of the Roman Catholic Church: Latin (with the exception of the reading of the Epistle and Gospel in English after being read in Latin and the sermon).

 Catholic-Pages.com | Discussion Forum - Tridentine Mass
Use of the Tridentine Mass, parts of which date from the time of St Gregory in the 6th century and which takes its name from the 16th-century Council of Trent, was restricted by most bishops after the reforms of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65).
Tridentine Masses are said regularly at the Oratory and St James’s Spanish Place in London, but are harder to find outside the capital.
Since the Second Vatican Council, the Tridentine Mass has been almost entirely superseded by the Mass of Pope Paul VI Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, who took the lead in opposing the reforms, continued to celebrate the old Mass at his seminary in EcĂ´ne, Switzerland, and formed a dissident group.

Tridentine (Latin) Mass, St. Josaphat Church, Detroit, MI
The Tridentine Rite is that form of Mass which was used almost everywhere in the Roman Catholic Church before the Second Vatican Council in the 1960’s.
The Tridentine Rite was never condemned as something bad, it simply fell out of use as Catholics became accustomed to the “New Mass”; which was offered in the people’s spoken language with many simplifications of the elaborate rubrics of the “Old Mass.”;
Most Catholics were very satisfied with this situation, especially since the new rite did allow for the continuation of the use of the Latin language if desired and even the use of the old altar where the priest faced the tabernacle instead of the people and the use of the Communion rail.

 About the Tridentine Rite
The Tridentine Mass takes its name from the Council of Trent (1545-63), which had called for a modest revision of the Roman rite.
It was seven years after the Council Fathers had disbanded that Pope St. Pius V authoritatively issued the missal that would reflect their concerns.
Informally known as the Tridentine, the missal does not so much as initiate any new practices as codify a tradition of worship which had been developing organically in Rome and other parts of Europe since the 300's.

 Tridentine Mass
Well, the Tridentine Mass is the traditional Latin Mass as codified by Pope Saint Pius V in 1570, shortly after the Council of Trent (hence the name Tridentine which is derived from Trent).
It should be noted that when St. Pius V issued the bull Quo Primum, which said that his Roman Missal was the only one to be used, he allowed for the continued use of those rites that were more than 200 years old -- such as the Ambrosian Rite or the Mozarabic Rite.
First of all, it's important to emphasize the the Tridentine Mass is not simply the Mass said in Latin, but a substantially different rite than that found in the 1970 Missal of Paul VI (more on this later).
