COA :: Tales from Oceanic Islands
The classical theory of island biogeography discusses how physical factors, such as the surface area of an island, its age, and its distance from the mainland interact to determine how quickly such an island will be colonized and how many species are likely to live there.
In the case of this particular ocean, the islands and seamounts situated closer to the continent are usually older than those found in the open ocean, a consequence of the local direction of sea-floor spreading.

Trindade is therefore a volcano that is similar in height to those of the Hawaiian islands, although steeper sided and therefore less voluminous, and it is built on lithosphere which is probably somewhat thicker than and drifting at a similar velocity to that beneath Hawaii (Müller et al.
We suggest that, as the Trindade plume tail reached the thinner lithosphere of the continental margin, to the east of the São Francisco craton, it was able to decompress sufficiently to initiate substantial melting and thus to cut the southward flow of hot mantle towards the Serra do Mar igneous province.

As the shoaling swell crests approach the island from the north their shallow-water portions are beginning to 'feel' the seabed, which slows them until the phase speed and group speed begin to equalise at the shoreward end.
Thus swells near the island are turned preferentially inshore, carrying the local waves with them, and energy from the light SE breeze is added directly, just when the heights of the shoaling waves are increasing to offer a greater area to the wind.

 Classic UFOs, Trindade
The photographer, Almiro Barauna, described as a member of the Icarai Club for Submarine Hunting, was the official photographer assigned to this unit because of his skill in underwater photography.
Looking over charts of the island and determining the apparent locations the UFO appeared in during the sighting and photography, it was estimated that the object had been traveling around 600-700 miles an hour and its size was about 120 feet in diameter and about 24 feet high.
It therefore appears to have been a deliberate distortion to make Barauna look like a trick photographer himself rather than the concerned and helpful consultant wishing to help clarify matters, which based on the evidence and testimony thus far accumulated, appears to be the true character of this person.
