Surplus water from the Trinity River Basin is stored, regulated, and diverted through a system of dams, reservoirs, tunnels, and powerplants into the Sacramento River for use in water-deficient areas of the Central Valley Basin.

Trinity River water is combined with Sacramento River water above Keswick Dam to provide irrigation services to lands in Shasta County, the Delta-Mendota Canal service area, the San Luis Unit, and other areas of the Central Valley Project.

The Trinity river salmon tournament is this weekend should be pretty crowded in the Junction City to Del loma area also they are lowering the river to 300 cfs on the 15th.
The river has a lot of fish in it but the bite is not red hot, we landed 10 fish today for 3 anglers all salmon in the 20 pound range.
The river flows this summer on the Trinity will be around 450cfs this is usually where they have kept them there is still some question as to whether they might let more water go down the Trinity to avoid another fish kill on the Klamath like we had last year.

In 1963, the river was dammed by the U.S. Interior Department and “surplus” water began to be pumped over to the Sacramento River from Lewiston, California, near Weaverville, in Trinity County.
In early 2002, the Hoopa Valley Tribe filed a motion to modify the preliminary injunction and the Court authorized release of 468,600 acre-feet of water to the Trinity River.
The recent ruling is in response to a request to the court to modify the Preliminary Injunction filed by the Hoopa Valley Tribe and the Yurok Tribe seeking increased releases to the Trinity River this year for fishery restoration purposes.

The Elm Fork of the Trinity rises in eastern Montague County and flows southeast eighty-five miles, through Cooke and Denton counties, to a confluence with the West Fork, which forms the Trinity River proper a mile west of downtown Dallas in central Dallas County (at 32°48' N, 96°52' W).
The West Fork of the Trinity rises in southern Archer County and flows southeast 180 miles through Jack, Wise, Tarrant, and Dallas counties and along the county line between Ellis and Kaufman counties, to its junction with the East Fork of the Trinity.
