Trio - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The most common forms of trio in classical music are the piano trio (piano, violin and cello) and the string trio (violin, viola and cello).
This usage gives rise to the "minuet and trio" (or the "scherzo and trio") which often appears as the third movement in a symphony, sonata or similar work.
Trio (album) is a 1987 recording by Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt.

 Encyclopedia: Trio (album)
Trio was a 1987 album featuring country and rock superstars Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt.
Trio didn't use heavy recording-techniques, there was no reverb, no delay, no light show, no complicated melodies.
I've seen the trio live a few times, and they're always impressive; it's unfortunate, but not entirely surprising that their 2002 live album, Electric, is arguably their best album to date.

At the time, her own albums were still reaching gold and platinum, and she and her management were not keen to follow one Trio project with another, even though the Ronstadt-Harris-Parton album was guaranteed heavy media attention.
We knew the Trio album wasn't going to happen because the record label didn't want to release it unless we were able to tour and promote it.
Trio II is a solid slice of country heaven and a magical piece of musical serendipity that gives an impression of some informal back-porch picking and singing that has been perfectly captured on tape for posterity.

Alice Coltrane - A Monastic Trio | sputnikmusic   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
This is Alice Coltrane's first album as a leader, made a year after her husband, John Coltrane, died.
Alice must have recorded it for this album as a tribute to Trane, as Ohnedaruth was his "spirit name" (see the liner notes to Alice's album Universal Consciousness).
A Monastic Trio may not stand up as an obvious classic like Ptah The El Daoud and Journey In Satchidananda, but it certainly deserves a place in any Alice Coltrane collection, as it is a very significant and beautiful record.

The Kingston Trio At Large, the group's first stereo studio album, was recorded in February of 1959 in New York City, and produced by Voyle Gilmore.
This was also the first Trio album to benefit from the welcome and fortuitous acquisition of David "Buck" Wheat, bassist, arranger/composer/ and occasional supplemental guitarist.
The Trio re-recorded their first single, "Scarlet Ribbons," in stereo for At Large, and the new version shows the group's growth and maturity as vocalists in less than a years time.

But with the release of their fourth and most accessible album "The Hot Rock," Sleater-Kinney may be a little closer to becoming something more of a household name.
The trio straddles the line between the grubby aesthetic of Bikini Kill and the polished California punk of Hole.
The trio's music is intensely emotional, wavering between rage and gentleness, and anchored by the melding of the sweet chants and unrepentant wails of singers Tucker and Brownstein.

Reflection of the group to do a “better” Kingston Trio record, along with the death of JFK during the recording sessions are what made this a very “somber” effort.
Here is an album that's disappointing because the cover and title seem to promise another fine album by the Trio (which followed shortly after New Frontier and #16).
My opinion of this album differs greatly than the only one I’ve seen published, and that’s in the book “The Kingston Trio On Record.” I think BACK IN TOWN shows the Trio exactly where they should be for the time period.

Rolling Stone : Something About Three Queens
The album in question is Trio II, the long-delayed follow-up to their Grammy and Academy of Country Music award-winning Trio album, which launched four Top Ten hits in 1987.
The cowgirl digs from the first album's cover and videos are clearly a thing of the past, as Ronstadt today wears a long, conservative burgundy dress and Harris a light blue sweater and purple dress that has earned her the nick-name "Tinky Winky," after the recently outed Teletubbie.
Nobody ever expected Trio II to see the light of day, so the notion of a third go-round, possibly when the women are in their sixties or even seventies, is bandied about like a playful challenge rather than dismissed outright.

 Emmylou Harris
Harris, who lived for a brief time on her own with her newborn daughter Hallie in Nashville, Tennessee, was forced, after struggling financially, to move back in with her parents, who were now living in Washington, D.C.
Instead, in 1972, Hillman ended up recommending her to Parsons, who was looking for a female vocalist to work with on his first solo album.
An experimental album for Harris to say the least, the record included Harris' rendition of the Neil Young penned title track, Julie Miller's "All My Tears", Jimi Hendrix's "May This Be Love" and Gillian Welch's "Orphan Girl." U2's Larry Mullen, Jr showed up to play drums for the project.

The other five pieces are by a trio with Garrison and the fiery drummer Rashied Ali.

The album kicks off with "Private Eye." This song immediately starts to fall into the "stereotypical" Alk3 song, with the chord changes in the same ol' places and obscenities being thrown in just for the hell of it, so it seems.
The Alkaline Trio is shooting for the stars with this album, and I think a lot of former die-hards will abandon them on their journey.
I have liked the alkaline trio ever since "I lied my face off" came out which stands to reason that although I haven't liked them since the beginning of their career, I have liked them before the huge hype about this band had begun.

CD Review of The Tichenor Trio Family Album A Superior Contribution to Ragtime Review by Nan Bostick
Their new CD, The Tichenor Trio Family Album, has replaced Virginia's Favorites as my number one best loved ragtime CD, not that I'm really complaining.
Add in the trio's performance of Joplin's Easy Winners, the second cut on the CD, and you'll more than feel you've received your money's worth, but that's less than half of this fabulous CD.
Recorded live at the home of collectors Phil and Phyllis McCoy in Santa Clara, CA, the Tichenor Family Album brings you that warm, wonderful feeling you get when watching this illustrious family play together at Festivals, but the sound production is far superior to most live performance recordings.

A few had last heard Alex from the depths of a sweaty mosh pit; now they were seated, listening intently, enjoying a bevarage and yelling approval for a lick or drum fill.
Between trio activity, Alex is a featured member of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra and recently recorded for their upcoming release on Lava/Atlantic Records.

NASHVILLE -- Ever since Dolly Parton, Linda Ronstadt, and Emmylou Harris recorded their acclaimed ``Trio'' album in 1987, aficionados of that sweet harmony have been waiting for the highly touted follow-up.
According to Harris, she, Parton, and Ronstadt enjoyed working on the first album and had been trying for years to do a second one.
With the popularity of female singers in ascendency, the pioneering trio members' project would seem ripe for mass acceptance, but Harris is hesitant to peg the project's appeal to a cultural trend.
