William M. 'Trip' Hawkins III (born 1953) is a Silicon Valley American entrepreneur and co-founder of Electronic Arts, The 3DO Company and Digital Chocolate.
Hawkins was the Director of Strategy and Marketing at Apple Computer in 1982 when he left to found Electronic Arts (EA), a video game publisher.
In 2005, Hawkins became the eighth person to be inducted into the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences' Hall of Fame.

On February 14th, I was in NYC to meet with Trip Hawkins to discuss a few things about 3DO, High Heat and Softball Slam.
And apparently, Trip is a big San Francisco Giants fan (he used to be a Dodgers fan earlier in his life, but that changed when he moved to the Bay area) and the bulk of the development team favors the Oakland A's.
Trip and I were both taunting each other, and he promptly nailed me with a pitch.

Hawkins’ unit wasn’t engaged in any military action on February 23, 1865, the day he was arrested for mutiny.
Hawkins must have walked off in a huff with some army gear, for his muster-out form stated that he owed the army $1.61 for “one waist belt, one gun sling, one shoulder sling and plate.”
Hawkins claimed he was seriously disabled due to his horse falling on him in 1864, attributing an amazing list of maladies, including asthma, to this accident.

Trip's done his share of tripping, but I actually think his early predictions for Xbox were pretty good, educated guesses.
What Trip didn't estimate was MS's interest in the future and willingness to take such a huge (though small in regards their operating income) financial hit.
Trip was right in one way, the Xbox has come too late and done too little.

I wrote about Trip Hawkins and Digital Chocolate last week, when the company released some casual multiplayer games.
Hawkins gave a keynote Wednesday morning at CTIA and elaborated on this further, but probably the most interesting thing I took away from it was that he said games have to give people an excuse to be social.
Hawkins realizes that we all play games, but since a lot aren’t console games or the type of games teenagers play, we don’t always know it.
