A treaty was signed between Nepal and India on 29 January 1996 and 12 February 1996 to generate electricity and develop the irrigation facilities, by constructing a big dam in Pancheswor of the Mahakali river, an international border river to the south-west of Nepal.
A tripartite treaty was signed between India, Britain and Nepal regarding the continuation of the status of the Nepalese in the British army.
Since the Treaty on natural resources required a two-third majority of the joint session of the parliament, and the support of the CPN(UML) was necessary, the Speaker of the House Representatives initiated talks between the representatives of the Nepali Congress, RPP and CPN(UML) on 25th January 1996.

In May 1838, Sir William Macnaghten was deputed to Lahore to engage the Maharaja in a treaty which aimed at the revival of the defunct Sikh-Afghan agreement of 1833.
After prolonged negotiations, the treaty was signed by Ranjit Singh on 26 June 1838 which is known as the Tripartite Treaty.
The Treaty confirmed control of the Sikh kingdom, in perpetuity, over the former Afghan possessions of Kashmir, Attock, Hazara, Peshawar and its dependencies up to the Khaibar, Bannu, Tonk, Kalabagh and other dependent Waziri districts, the Derajat and the rich and fertile province of Multan.
