The Dalton House was built in 1746 by Michael Dalton, a wealthy “master mariner and deeded to his son Tristram in 1764.
Tristram Dalton graduated from Harvard College in 1755 and after studying law entered into business with his father.
Tristram became active in local, state, and national politics and was a “zealous advocate for the adoption of the constitution.” Appropriately, he was elected one of the first two senators to represent the Commonwealth in the newly formed Congress.
