	Triumph TR3A - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Triumph TR3A was built between 1957 and 1962 by the Triumph Motor Company in the United Kingdom.
		The TR3A was a minor update from the TR3.
		The updates included the new wide front grill, exterior door handles, lockable boot handle and came with a full tool kit as standard (this was an option on the TR3).

		The TR2-TR3B series of cars were created by Sir John Black at Standard Triumph as a response to the success of the Jaguar XK 120.
		A TR3B, nearly identical to the TR3A, was produced in 1962 and sold only in North America.
		A big attraction of the the TR3A is that these are reliable cars and easy to work on.

		I calculated that I could have the job done in about 5 months and be back on the road sometime in June to spend the rest of the summer touring with the Triumph Travelers Sports Car Club.
		At this point my TR3A is a quite dependable driver so I'm more interested in driving it than working on it.

	30+ years with a Triumph TR3A
		I purchased this TR3A # TS 75178 in January 1970 as my unique means of transport but less than two months later the cylinder head gasket blew because of stripped threads on two studs.
		That was the beginning of my "Triumph apprenticeship".
		Today's air-conditioned, computer-controlled, asceptisized vehicles are very convenient for getting from A to B and back again, but you just can't beat the sheer pleasure of driving one of these cars that were designed more than fifty years ago.........Perhaps that's all there is to it ?

		It was the first car that the "man on the street" (originally retailing for around $1k!) could afford that could break 100mph, and it was also the first production car to offer disc brakes, a feature that Jaguar later made famous.

		The car still looked perfect when I got it, but it needed a lot of work to bring it up to drivable condition.
		Triumph TR3's are tough cars, that will go on forever if well maintained.
		Like most cars that are half a century old, they do not suffer neglect very well and need a technically savvy owner who enjoys wielding spanners and getting his/her hands dirty.

	Triumph TR3a displayed at Astle Park Steam Fair
		The Triumph shown above got a real drenching - top marks to the owners of all the old vehicles on show, I'm sure they'd rather their prized vehicles were tucked away out of the inclement weather.
		Despite the efforts of mother nature, the TR3a looked really well and is a credit to its owner.

		In 1957 the Triumph TR3A was introduced as a replacement for its predecessor, the TR3.
		The 3A featured improved design and mechanics, resulting in a top speed of 105 mph.
		The TR3A was a reliable vehicle; this was proven in 1960 during the grueling Le Mans 24 Hour race where three cars were entered and finished, placing ninth, eleventh and fifteenth.

		At one point, this page and others contained dozens of pictures relating to the purchase and restoration of TS42099L, a spare parts car in my dad's backyard.
