Triumph (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Being a power trio, Triumph were often compared to Rush, but at the start, their own brand of heavy rock remained structured and traditional, eschewing concept albums and instrumental improvisation.
Triumph's bombastic style proved unpopular with rock critics, who paused their harangues against Rush long enough to print more than a few diatribes against them.
Triumph's first album (originally self-titled but later renamed In the Beginning) was extremely rare outside Canada, but their widely released second LP, Rock and Roll Machine, received some scattered airplay with Gil Moore's cover of Joe Walsh's "Rocky Mountain Way".

Their first album on Attic received little attention in Canada, but journalist David Farrell sent a copy to a deejay in San Antonio, Texas, who was so impressed that he helped to get the band a small tour of San Antonio, Corpus Christi and Austin.
Triumph hit the road and quickly gained a reputation for being a tight bunch of musicians with a pyrotechnic light show that rivaled anything else on the road in those days.

Triumph formed in Toronto, Ontario, in 1975 after a chance meeting led Emmett, Levine and Moore to embark on a marathon jam session.

 Daily Vault - March 31, 2004
But Triumph, by virtue of having drummer Gil Moore and Emmett teaming up to share the singing/songwriting duties through the eight-album history of the band, had always been more dynamic than most bands with regards to the chemistry found on each album.
The opening guitar riffs of Xenidis on the song were decidedly a tribute to the new era as the musical differences that frustrated Moore and Emmett in the past centered on what Moore claimed to be Emmett softening in his approach to his songwriting.
As a result, the album lost the airplay radio was just beginning to give their first single, "Child of the City." And with that, it was almost as if Edge Of Excess never existed.

 TRIUMPH - GIL MOORE
Well after the last TRIUMPH album ‘Edge of excess’ the band quietly stopped doing all the big shows, and we moved on with our lives.
We had a hitsingle from the album called “Troublemaker”, which was used for the movie ‘Hellraiser’, and we kinda rocked very hard on that final TRIUMPH record, as we wanted to get away from the record companies involvements on how we should sound.
We went down to LA to record the album with a terrible producer, we hated him, and halfway he just went his own way, and during this hot summer we changed from producer, and eventually MIKE CLINK finished the job, and he was a great friendly guy.

Pitchfork 7.5 out of 10 "...A combination of serrated texture and breakneck intensity is what makes this fairly conventional album stand out: Instead of the shock of the new, it imparts the shock of the awesome, as it's tough to reinvent a wheel that's jamming down a rutted road with redlining RPMs.
