Classical Christian Homeschooling: On the Trivium
Rather, the trivium was developed by long trial and error, through the observation of the ancients in the way children learn during the whole course of their instruction from young child to young adult.
In discussing the trivium it is helpful to distinguish between the stages of grammar, dialectic, and rhetoric; and the subjects of grammar, logic, and rhetoric.
As instructional stages, the trivium follows this progression: the grammar stage, emphasizing memorization of concrete facts and corresponding to the elementary grades; the dialectic stage, emphasizing understanding and analytical thinking and corresponding to the junior high grades; and the rhetoric stage, emphasizing expression and abstract thinking and corresponding to the high school grades.

I don't know how they did it, but Trivium managed to find a way to write, rehearse, record and release the new record (entitled "The Crusade") in time, and they were even able to make it even better than "Ascendancy" (more unique, music-oriented, expansive, and complex).

McLuhan Studies Premiere Issue: The War Within the Word: McLuhan's History of the Trivium
The war between these literary camps is basically the opposition between dialectics and rhetoric to control the modes of literary composition; and the ramifications of this opposition stretch into the realms of ethics and politics, both in antiquity and in the Renaissance.
McLuhan structures the Nashe thesis in four chapters: The Trivium until St. Augustine, The Trivium from St. Augustine to Abelard, The Trivium from Abelard to Erasmus, Thomas Nashe.
If McLuhan finds in the history of the trivium an allegory to the history of man's relationship to God, he is likewise making a quiet but profound assertion of faith: that, with the guidance of the wisest sources that the history of the Logos insures, a primordial rupture in man's being-in the word-can be repaired.

 Trivium Method - Home Crusaders
The Latin word "Trivium" means "three roads." Ancient and Mediaeval education was structured around the Trivium the three roads of learning which consisted of these three subjects:
Knowledge/Input engages the senses as one brings in information; Understanding/Processing engages the mind as one discovers and analyzes relationships; Wisdom/ Output engages the voice, the hands and the feet as one expresses and applies in meaningful and practical ways the things he has learned.
We believe it is imperative to re-establish the Trivium syllabus of Grammar, Logic and Rhetoric Knowledge, Understanding and Wisdom as the basis of our curriculum.
