  Troika Games Chat About Arcanum
With numerous quests to complete and skills to learn, Troika Games hopes to create an RPG with over 100 hours of gameplay (Steve Moret, Troika programmer, joked that he had yet to finish the game).
Responding to a pre-release build of the game leaked to the public, Troika remained upbeat, joking about the horrible fate that comes to pirates and promising that the final version would be superior to the leaked copy.
Troika looks forward to the final weeks before the game's August 24th release and believes that they have created a game that may even exceed the success of their classic RPG, Fallout.

Troika Games - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Troika Games was a computer game developer focused on computer role-playing games.
While Troika's games were lauded by critics and die-hard gamers for their storytelling and open-ended game design, the company had been often criticised for the large number of bugs in their games, particularly Temple and Bloodlines.
In 2004, Troika released Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

Game Over Online Magazine - Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
Troika provided a “fullscreen” mode in its latest patch, which makes the interface much less conspicuous, but it also removes some useful information (like how much ammunition you have and what time it is), and it forces you to use hotkeys (which, of course, aren’t configurable).
Troika did one of those good things / bad things by making the manual into a late 1800’s (Jules Verne era) manuscript, and so the text is thematic and fun to read, but it is also overly verbose, with treatises on some subjects rather than short convenient descriptions.
For example, Troika spends 25 pages describing the eight races in the game, but it only covers their background information (their history, how much they weight, and so forth), and you have to actually start up the character creation dialogue in the game to find out what the racial bonuses are.

 Site Features @ GameBanshee
Last month, rumors spread throughout the gaming industry that Troika Games had laid off its entire staff and that the company's three founders (Leonard Boyarsky, Tim Cain, and Jason Anderson) were considering closing down the game development studio for good.
Leon: We had some initial interest in our post apocalyptic game, but it was felt that it would have taken too long a dev cycle to develop the engine and then the game.
We were hoping to do it in conjunction with another project with the same publisher to offset the development costs of the engine, but that deal fell through somewhere in the executive realm of the company we were talking to.

One of the problems with the recent wave of roleplaying titles is that there has been little in the way of diversity when it comes to the locations and settings.
Yet developer Troika Games seems to blend it all in and has created a compelling story to bring these worlds together.

As for the new 3.5 rules, which were finally unveiled at GenCon last month, Troika had already been working with them for several months, making sure that the game was compliant, not only in terms of rules execution, but also in the way that spells and monsters were rendered so that they matched descriptions.

A number of independent sources have indicated that Troika Games, developer of notable PC RPG titles including Vampire: the Masquerade: Bloodlines, The Temple of Elemental Evil, and Arcanum, has reduced its personnel to a bare minimum, and may now close permanently.
Early responses to the post were skeptical, and the veracity of the sale has not been officially confirmed; however, during the discussion of how legitimate the post was, a Troika employee did post to note that the company had been operating with a vastly reduced staff since two rounds of layoffs in late 2004.
Leonard Boyarsky, Troika's co-founder and CEO, would not comment directly on the increasing volume of the rumors, telling GameSpot that Troika would make an official announcement "by the end of February." Hopefully the announcement will bring good news, but since Boyarsky didn't specifically deny the rumors, things may look grim for fans of Troika's games.

Some will see Troika’s closure as evidence that such niche PC titles can no longer thrive so easily, at least not in areas of the U.S. where wages and development costs are relatively high, without some form of high-profile license.
In particular, Troika's failure to acquire the Fallout 3 license, which the company had been hoping to create a high-profile title for before Bethesda successfully sealed a deal with Interplay in late 2004, likely helped contribute to its demise.
