Andrei Rublev - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Andrei Rublev probably lived in the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra under Nikon of Radonezh, who became hegumen after the death of Sergii Radonezhsky ( 1392).
Chronicles tell us that in 1408 he painted (together with Daniil Cherni) the Cathedral of the Assumption in Vladimir and in 1425 – 1427 the Cathedral of St. Trinity in the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra.
The first mention about Rublev’s iconography was in 1405 when he decorated icons and frescos for the Cathedral of the Dormition of the Moscow Kremlin in company with Feofan Grek and Prokhor of Gorodets.

In the fall of 1682, the government of Sophia Alekseyevna had to move to Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra, because the uprising had gotten out of hand.
She practically became the head of the government with support from Vasily Golitsyn, F.Shalkovitiy and others.
Its leaders had been conspiring to eliminate all of the royalty, boyars, and nobility and make Knyaz Ivan Khovansky ruler of Russia.

 Russian Museums
Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra (Sergy’s Trinity Monastery) in Sergiev Posad near Moscow is the religious orthodox center of Russia and a landmark of the Old Russian architecture.
Russian religious philosopher Paul Florensky wrote: "The Lavra is an artistic portrait of Russia in her whole, in comparison to which any other place is nothing more than a photo… Here one gets not only aesthetic impressions, but also the feeling of history and sensation of the national soul".
It was based by the monk Sergy of Radonezh in the 30-40s of the XIV century.

 The Religious Landscape
One of the most elaborate and beautiful, located 75 kilometers north and east of Moscow, is the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra at Sergiyevo Pasad, known as Zagorsk during the Soviet era.
In all of Russia, there are four major religious centers or Lavras.
The monastery was founded in 1345 and is one of the few fortresses that was not destroyed by invading armies.

The Lavra contains the Troitski Cathedral (15th cent.); the Uspenski Cathedral (16th cent.), with the tomb of Boris Godunov; and a treasure chamber with rich tapestries and many objects of liturgical art.
The original wooden church, built by the monk Sergius, was destroyed in a Tatar raid in 1391.

Sergeiv Posad (“Zagorsk” in Soviet times) developed from a settlement around the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra, one of Russia’s most famous monasteries (founded 1340).
In 1774, the monastery was given the title Lavra, the monastery of the highest rank, and played an important role in the history of the formation of the centralized Russian state and in the development of the Russian culture.
We also visit the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra Monastery where we will be able to see the famous caves, one of the most sacred places of Orthodox Christianity; unique museums of precious historical items, and collections of ancient books and icons.

Don't Miss a Trip To Sergiyev Posad
On a one-day road trip to Sergiyev Posad I would recommend that you see the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra.
Lavra in Russian means the highest rank of monastery, and this one was once the headquarters of the Russian Orthodox Church before it was moved several years ago to the Svyato-Danilov Monastery in Moscow.
Based on my personal experience, the most interesting area in the Moscow region is to the northeast -- in the direction of Sergiyev Posad, an early 17th century town about 54 kilometers from Moscow on Yaroslavskoye shosse.

 Sergii Radonezhsky
In the deep forest at Makovets hill (where the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra is now located) they decided to build a small cell and a church dedicated in honor of the Trinity.
Varfolomei took monastic vows and spent more than a year in the woods alone, but soon others monks started coming to him building their own cells.
He persuaded Stefan to find a more secluded place.

The Lavra now contains the Troitski Cathedral (15th cent.); the Uspenski Cathedral (16th cent.), with the tomb of Boris Godunov; and a treasure chamber with rich tapestries and many objects of liturgical art.
The original wooden church, built by the monk Sergius, was unfortunately destroyed in a Tatar raid in 1391.
The palace was never completed and the cathedral was rebuilt in it's original position between 1995-2000.

BBC NEWS Europe European press review
The heavyweight broadsheet Nezavisimaya Gazeta reports that members of the Orthodox and Muslim communities are in dispute over the planned construction of a mosque in Sergiyev Posad, a town not far from Moscow, and home to the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra, one of the country's most famous monasteries and an important focus for Orthodox worship.
As the paper explains, a number of Orthodox organizations have been campaigning against the building of the new mosque, given just how close it would be to the monastery, a place to which they attach particular importance.
Meanwhile, a damaging conflict is brewing between representatives of the two dominant forces in Russia's complex religious mix.

Trafalgar BEST OF FINLAND RUSSIA ESTONIA
Within the old walled city we see the Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra, a working monastery where the Orthodox faith was tolerated by the State and kept alive even during the “years of atheism”.
For centuries it served as the religious capital of Russia and place of pilgrimage for the faithful of the Russian Orthodox creed.

Russian judicial decisions, it alleged, “are tainted by a blatant bias against ethnic minorities like the Chechens,” and the hostage drama in Moscow “is unlikely to have done much to change this state of affairs.”

At this point references to the authority of some elders, primarily that of Archimandrite Kirill (Pavlov), Confessor of Troitse-Sergiyeva Lavra - the main monastery (and the main Ecclesiastical Academy) of the country, became the strike-force.
As Confessor of Svyato-Troitskaya Sergiyeva Laura Archimandrite Kirill (Pavlov) noted with justice and precision, "By accepting INN a person is incorporated into the system of evil"...
It is possible to find some differences in this document as compared to the Final Document of the February plenary session of the Theological Commission, but on the whole we see just more definitely and resolutely reformulated provisions of «The Bases of the Social Concept»:
