Trolls average seven feet in height and two hundred pounds in weight, save for two tribes, the Drakkari and the Zandalari, who tend to be somewhat larger than their kindred.
The trolls of the Darkspear tribe, long since exiled from their ancestral lands in Stranglethorn Vale, were nearly destroyed by a band of aquatic Murlocs, but Thrall and the Horde managed to save them.
Eventually, due to the troll's persistence, the Aqiri kingdom split in half as its citizens fled to separate colonies in the far northern and souther regions of the continent.

The two most popular beliefs would be that the Trolls would become a Battleground faction, in combat with the Wildhammer Clan, while the other theory saw the Trolls becoming apart of a new instance to be introduced to the Hinterlands.

As with other such offerings, World of Warcraft is a role-playing game that lets you both create and adventure as a single character in a persistent world while simultaneously allowing you to gain experience levels, treasure, and better weapons and armor by fighting monsters and completing quests.
At this point in time, when you create a new orc or troll character, you start your travels just outside of an area known as "The Den," which is a congregation point for the two races that consists of a large cave full of trainers, weaponsmiths, and other merchants.
Neither the orcs nor the trolls are particularly big on iconic imagery, save for the few banners that are hung throughout certain buildings that bear the flags of each race.

In all seriousness, though the Trolls have frequently been depicted as the original natives to various regions, they still held a rather malicious, savage, cannibalistic culture and are generally treated by Azerothian history as villains standing in the way of progress by the more civilized races of the world.
The High Elf concept carried from Warcraft II looked a little tepid compared with the reimagining of the elf staple in the Night Elves, so they needed a rebirth into a fresher, more dynamic image just to contrast them from their former kin that kicked them out of the "forest elf" throne.
Trolls will have to possess the merit to exist as PCs all on their own, without being directly associated with any other race.
