This was supposed to be Troma's brush with mainstream success and they actually had the financial backing of Namco of Japan (the people who made the original Pac-Man video game).
It really gives a ton of insight into why Troma has diligently blasted mainstream hollywood films with a more burning passion than ever since this film was released to lukewarm press and fan acceptance.
Love them or hate them (I guess I'm somewhere in the middle), Troma is here to stay and are as loud, brash, cheesy and uncompromising in their quest to continue making, as they put it "Movies for the Future!!" as they've ever been.

Troma, led by "Lucious" Lloyd Kaufman, and "The Enigma" Michael Herz(well, if they were a wrestling tag team, those would be their names), is THE benchmark in independent cinema.
He is misunderstood(aren't we all?) by the media(like Troma Studios is, in fact, if Toxie got screwed by the MPAA all the time, he would represent a good metaphor for Troma), but is a great hero.
Troma got a lotta income off of this stuff, and it helped finance many Troma movies.

The Stendhal Syndrome, which was released by Troma in the states, is in 1.66:1 non-anamorphic widescreen.
Then of course the credits end, the image changes to the first scene, and there before your eyes is the blatant, unapologetic, soul-shattering zoom, and the rest of the film is pan and scan.
One major problem I've had with the Troma released I've picked up (and I've probably bought 20-25 over the years) is that because so many unreleated (and often annoying) extras are packed onto the disc, the quality fo the movie itself's presentation sufferes.

Staring across from me was a mop and a bucket, which was part of the fixings of the broom closet.
I find it far more rewarding to receive a letter from a Troma fan than any Oscar or other crappy award the devil worshipping mega conglomerates pump out for every piece of shit Jerry Bruckheimer produces ever could be.
I worked with a mop inches from my face for about 5 years when we first began Troma, so it was imbedded in my mind.
