  The Cylon Alliance - Tron
It is ironic, however, that TRON rides the blue light cycle in the game and his opponents ride the yellow while in the movie it was the other way around.
As TRON, you are armed with a series of disks and a deflector to drive back the red warrior’s weapons, which consist of disks, a chaser, and a super chaser which TRON must destroy with his own disks.
Also appearing that TRON had to deal with were grid bugs, which only had a cameo in the movies yet featured in the TRON arcade game as characters in a subgame.

Flipside Movie Emporium: Tron Movie Review
I never saw Tron as a child -- if I had, I'm sure I would have overlooked the clunky dialogue and awful plotting -- but watching it now, I'm struck by the way this sci-fi curio resembles that laser beam, working a similar warp trick on the audience.
For most of the movie, though, Flynn is trapped inside the virtual world of Encom's computer, forced to combat other renegade "programs" on the Game Grid, a video game made real.
Tron channels that fear in rather overt ways, predicting a future where our computers are verging on revolt.

Tron, Flynn, and Yuri are the heroes in this film who try and free the system from the MCP's control.
Aside from being a smash hit in the theater, Tron was also a major success in the new video game arcades of the early eighties and on the home console video game systems of the day.

Tron, imbued with Alan's desire to override the MCP, is already planning its escape, and in the course of its resistance Tron has earned itself a formidable enemy - Sark, Dillinge r's program which herds the rest of Encom's programs into the MCP's domain and keeps them there.
The sequence in which Tron receives new instructions from his human alter ego is given a magical and spiritual underscore, and in many other places the music makes this movie.
During Tron's solar sailer getaway, there's a brief scene which warns of the dangers of "grid bugs," which are then shown to be somewhat cute computer-animated critters who, it seems, could potentially endanger Tron and his friends.

Tron 2.0 for PC Review - PC Tron 2.0 Review
The 1982 film Tron may not hold up by today's standards, but it was a revelation for anyone who grew up during the video game boom of the early '80s.
The movie was filled with vivid computer-generated graphics, and it put the lead character first in a real arcade and then in neon-lit cyberspace, where anthropomorphic "programs" faced off in video-game-style challenges.
That's because, at heart, Tron 2.0 is a standard run-and-gun shooter with a neon patina.

For while the movie may not have been considered a blockbuster, it did present us with a look inside the world of the computer that very few have tried to duplicate, surpass or explore.
Originally planned to be a movie, it was decided that it would be released as a PC game with altered versions under the name TRON 2.0 Killer App being released for the X-Box and Nintendo’s Game Boy Advance.

It sort of feels like a kid'’ movie only without a single child in a starring role, and if you don'’ think much of the main actors you’ll be out of luck, because you stick pretty exclusively to the top five for the entire running length.
Not only is Tron an 80’s movie, but the plot sounds like an amateur film kids make in the backyard when summer vacation gets boring.
Tron is a lot cooler and clearly conjures up images of computer and data in one’s head.

This movie is perhaps one of the first to feature computer animated and rendered scenes for large portions of the movie.
Perhaps one reason this was done is because the movie's plot took place primarily inside of a computer system; with game grids for video games, humanoid programs which interact with eachother, binary bits, and the computer user who was "accidentally" digitized into the mainframe by the Master Control Program (or MCP).
Tron 2.0 is a story-driven first-person shooter with a slight touch of RPG and resource management elements.

In the day, both the movie and the music were the seminal works of their time: one with groundbreaking animation and computer generated graphics and another integrating synthesized music with a full orchestra.
Tron sparingly used CGI effects since it took so long to generate even the most simple computer animation, whereas the latter film was completely computer generated, even down to the actors within.
You can use Tron as a history lesson, and example of a genre, or let it stand alone as it may, but I'm sure you'll find it as fun and as interesting as I have for the past 20 years.

Tron (1982)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-07)
More than just reminiscent of Lang's Metropolis, Tron is a beautiful, well made exercise from a main stream producer (Disney) which reminds us of the time before Jurassic Park and Episode One where creative skill was left to human perception rather than a computer's digitally correct ideal.
Owing more to the human colourists than the now outdated computer effects, this film is evidence - similar in a way to Kubric's pre-Moon landing, pre-CGI 2001 - to the creative and more sensory-pleasing abilities of the human artist over soul-less programmers, from a time before when a box would 'parse' it all for you.
Tron was created in a period of wire diagrams being the best you could coax from a computer; anything else was added by human hand.
