TRONDRA (ON Thrandrey - Thrandr's Island) is joined to the Mainland by a bridge.
Another bridge joins BURRA ISLE (Borgarey - Broch Island) to Trondra with its pretty village of Hamnavoe (ON Hafnarvagr - Harbour Bay), which has grown a lot since 1890 when there were only six cottages here.
In the early part of the 20th century several streets of fishermen's cottages were built, which have traditionally been painted with left-over boat paint.

The Trondra History Group were asked to do a project for the Thistle and the Rose by the Provanhall Heritage group.

Trondra is a remodelling of an existing house in the Shetland Isles on the edge of a Voe.
It had originally been an ad-hoc extended cottage and the brief was to fuse together the various parts to make the home read internally and externally as one.
The external walls have been remodelled in cedar and render allowing the house to read as one whilst the contrasting materials enlivening the fenestration.

The B9074 road south from Scalloway goes past the Shetland Glass Studio at East Voe before crossing the first of three bridges linking the Shetland Mainland to the beautiful isles of Trondra, West Burra and East Burra.
At Burland on Trondra the Shetland Croft Trail is a wonderful place for children to see old Shetland breeds of livestock and learn about crofting history and traditional crafts such as boatbuilding.
The Burra Bridge leads to the pretty fishing village of Hamnavoe, with lovely coastal walking out to the lighthouse on Fugla Ness and along the Sands of Meal one of Shetland's finest beaches and a favourite picnic spot (with convenient car park).

The Trondra Local History Group have got something news to celebrate – Borders Books at the Glasgow Fort Shopping Centre have agreed to stock a small supply of their new book, “Hidden Histories: Greater Easterhouse – More Than Just a Scheme”.
Supported by John Wheatley College, Glasgow City Council’s Open Museum and the National Library of Scotland, the group have investigated and researched local history of the area, using first-hand accounts, historical references and parish records to provide a vivid picture of Easterhouse’s past.
Pictured here with copies of the book are group members, accompanied by their tutor, Laura Edwards and the Strategic Marketing Executive for Borders Books, Stephanie Harold.
