Tropical Cyclone 05B (1999) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tropical Cyclone 05B was the deadliest Indian Ocean tropical cyclone since the 1991 Bangladesh cyclone, and deadliest Indian storm since 1971.
The storm continued to strengthen, and intensified to a cyclone on the 27th in the open Bay of Bengal.
On October 28, the cyclone rapidly intensified to a peak of 160 mph winds, the equivalent of a Category 5 hurricane.

Tropical Cyclone (TC) 05B was one of the most significant tropical cyclones on record to affect India, and the worst since 1971.
TC 05B tracked northwestward and intensified across the Bay of Bengal under the steering influence of the subtropical ridge to the north.
Subsequently, TC 05B maintained 100 kt intensity for 12 hours as it dumped torrential rains and battered the coastal areas, then slowly turned southward and moved back over the Bay of Bengal as a 40 kt tropical cyclone.

Tropical Depression 14F was a very persistent system which was mentioned in Nadi's Tropical Disturbance Summaries from the 14th of April until the first of May. The system was relocated several times, and it's possible that the number was applied to more than one weak LLCC embedded in the monsoon trough.

Cyclone is designed to avoid buffer overflows and other vulnerabilities that are endemic in C programs, without losing the power and convenience of C as a tool for systems programming.Cyclone was jointly developed by Greg Morrisett's group at Cornell University and AT and T Labs Research in the early 2000s.
In comparison to tropical cyclones, such systems have a relatively broad zone of maximum winds that is located farther from the centre, and typically have a less symmetric wind field and distribution of convection.
Darwin has a tropical climate, and is subjected to tropical thunderstorms and cyclones; the first recorded cyclone to hit Darwin was the 1867 cyclone, and much of the city was destroyed by Cyclone Tracy in 1974.

This cyclone struck Bangladesh with estimated winds of 160 mph and a central pressure of 898mb.
The 1999 cyclone ranks as one of the strongest recorded in this region, but as is often the case, it was the heavy rainfall, storm surge and the associated flooding rather than the wind strength which caused most of the devastation and deaths.
The Gujarat province was struck by a cyclone with winds of 115 mph in June 1998 and was struck again a little further up the coast less than a year later in May 1999 with winds of 125 mph.

The most intense tropical cyclone observed in the Southwest Indian Ocean, and possibly in the entire Southern Hemisphere, since 1979 was Tropical Cyclone Geralda in late January, 1994, which attained a maximum sustained wind estimated at 150 knots over one minute.
The bottom line is that tropical cyclone track and intensity fore- casting is by no means an exact science, and the public (and media) of all cyclone-prone countries need to be constantly reminded of this fact.
Cyclones passing to the east of an island in the Southwest Indian Ocean are usually "dry", and also do not expose the island to their highest winds.
