Trouble at the Henhouse - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Trouble at the Henhouse is the fifth full-length album from Canadian rock band The Tragically Hip.
Henhouse was somewhat softer than their earlier albums, much like their fourth album Day for Night.
The title comes from the cover art, a photograph by Avery Crounse, which is also called "Trouble at the Henhouse".

For what it's worth, "Trouble at the Henhouse" is likely not the disc that will reverse these fortunes.
Many of the eggs gathered for "Henhouse" were incubated through the Hip's trademark in-concert mid-song jams, jams that provide diversion from routine for the musicians and anticipation of the unexpected for audiences.
While I can admire the band for not capitulating to outside pressures, producing a more difficult record that remains true only to themselves, "Trouble at the Henhouse" is clearly a pause, a plateau, a respite along the way (one hopes) to some new stage or approach.

"Trouble At the Henhouse" is by far the weakest album the Hip have ever produced.
However, I will concede that Trouble at the Henhouse is their best effort, and has enough decent songs to warrant a second look.
The Tragically Hip's 'Trouble in the Henhouse' is probably the best, yet most underrated album.

 TrouserPress.com :: Tragically Hip
The self-produced Trouble at the Henhouse shows signs of fatigue, and the album suffers from a sluggish pace.
Perhaps most evident of the Hip’s loss of vision, however, is the near-metal of "Tiger, the Lion," which is as dark and intense as anything from Day for Night.
Trouble is, Downie’s insistence on nattering aimlessly about John Cage undercuts what could have been a great song.

Interview: Paul Langlois of the Tragically Hip, October 1996
They have produced their own breaks, always displaying an acute sense of perspective, and amid their best billboard and radio showing yet with Trouble at the Henhouse, I was surprised to hear Paul's next comments.
Radio play and promotion aren't the most important things for us; making good records that we want to make and playing live are the most important and if we did break that market, I think we would have a sense that it would be a strain on our personal lives.
It is their patience and sense of perspective that has allowed them to be healthy, creative individuals and as a result, a healthy, creative band.

Summoning up lost relics of Canadiana with a well-schooled English Lit degree, Downie had long since mastered the art of speaking, and singing wonderfully sideways.
Sometime during the recording of the band's self-produced last album, Trouble at the Henhouse, the musicians seemed to get it.
Shedding mindless solos and pointless white-guy bluesy-chord progressions, Downie's band mates actually began to write and play music that served as a subtle backdrop of Downie's lyrical prowess.
