County, Georgia's sixty-third, was established on the border of Alabama, along with four other counties, by an act of the state legislature in 1825.
Troup County, which comprises 414 square miles, prospered in the nineteenth century as an agricultural area with rich soil watered by the Chattahoochee River and its tributaries.
According to the 2000 U.S. census, the population of Troup County was 58,779 (65.8 percent white, 31.9 percent fl, and 1.7 percent Hispanic).

Troup County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia.
Troup, Coweta, and Carroll counties was ceded by the Creek people in the 1825 Treaty of Indian Springs.
In the county the population was spread out with 27.90% under the age of 18, 9.20% from 18 to 24, 28.40% from 25 to 44, 21.90% from 45 to 64, and 12.60% who were 65 years of age or older.

 Troup County Georgia Land Boundaries
THE ACT of the General Assembly of Georgia to organize the territory lately acquired from the Creek Nation was signed by the governor on the 11th day of December, 1826.
The territory was that between the Flint (Thronateeska) River and the Chattahoochee River, and extended from the old north line of Early County to the north line of Coweta County.
The county of Heard was created on December 22, 1830, and a portion of Troup County in the general shape of a triangle was transferred to Heard County, leaving only four and one-half miles of the original county boundary on the north side, and adjacent to Coweta County.

On Dec. 14, 1826, the legislature directed that Troup County elections and court sessions be held in the house of Joseph Weaver.
Despite the fact that the five counties were not named until Dec. 14, 1826, the date their respective boundaries were established -- June 9, 1825 -- is generally accepted as the date of their creation.
Because the five counties were provided for in the same act, their order of creation is based on the order they were mentioned in the act -- Lee, Muscogee, Troup, Coweta, and Carroll.

George Michael Troup was Governor of Georgia from 1823 to 1827.
During Governor Troup's administration the treaty with the Creek Nation was negotiated by the United States Government for the cession of the territory of which Troup County now is a part.
The treaty was signed at Indian Springs, Georgia, on February 12, 1825, by commissioners on the part of the United States Government and by William McIntosh, President and Head Chief of the Creek Nation.
