In the county, the population was spread out with 24.20% under the age of 18, 8.50% from 18 to 24, 28.10% from 25 to 44, 24.90% from 45 to 64, and 14.30% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the county was $32,212, and the median income for a family was $37,401.

 TN Encyclopedia: TROUSDALE COUNTY
The first county to be created after the Civil War, Trousdale County was named in honor of Governor William Trousdale.
Early historical accounts of Trousdale County noted it for two developments: a quarry that produced high-quality grist stones for Middle Tennessee's water-powered mills and a horse racetrack at Hartsville.
In 2000 Trousdale County had a population of 7,259, a 22 percent increase since 1990.

 The Trousdale Place
Trousdale Place is a handsome old two-story brick house serenely shaded by large trees and has been proudly placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In 1899, Annie Berry Trousdale, daughter-in-law of William Trousdale, deeded the home to the Clark Chapter #13 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy to honor all veterans and in particular, veterans of the Confederacy.
To memorialize the Trousdale’s military history and the service of approximately 3,000 Confederate soldiers from Sumner County, a monument was erected on the front lawn of Trousdale Place on September 19, 1903.

Hartsville is the county seat of Trousdale County, Tennessee and now coextensive with it as a metropolitan government by virtue of a referendum which passed in Trousdale County by a single vote.
Trousdale County High School is located here, as well as a technical school operated by the Tennessee Board of Regents.
Trousdale County is the only Tennessee county to have legalized parimutuel betting on horse racing, however no group has ever stepped forward actually to build a racetrack.

 7th Tennessee Infantry: Regimental History
The 7th Tennessee was organized at Camp Trousdale, Sumner County, Tennessee (other sources record Lebanon, in Wilson County), where it was mustered into the Confederate States of America Army in July of 1861.
The 7th and the 14th Tennessee Regiments were to be together from the original formation of the Brigade until the surrender by General Lee at Appomattox Court House.
The 7th Tennessee had a long history of courage and determination, as evidenced by its participation in every major battle in which the Army of Northern Virginia fought including part of Pickett’s charge at Gettysburg.
