  Kennedy-Martin, Troy
Troy Kennedy Martin began his career as a television screenwriter in 1958 and quickly emerged as a leading member of a group of writers, directors and producers at the BBC who were pushing the limits of British television drama.
Yet, because the style remained "naturalistic," Kennedy Martin felt that it was soon compromised by the generic and institutional constraints that encourage identification with the police and the demonization of the criminal.
Although Kennedy Martin advocated the development of short dramatic forms, not unlike the music videos which emerged in the 1980s, he has made a major contribution to British television drama in the developments of the long forms of series and serials.

Troy Kennedy Martin - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Troy Kennedy Martin (born 1932; sometimes credited as Troy Kennedy-Martin) is a British film and television scripwriter.
Although Kennedy Martin left the programme after the two series, it went on to have a terrifically long life, eventually running until 1978.
In the early 1980s Kennedy Martin was no less successful, with two highly popular series on different networks in the same year, 1983.

BBC - h2g2 - The Works of Troy Kennedy Martin - Screenwriter
During his National Service in Cyprus during the 1950s, Kennedy Martin foresaw the troubles between the Turks and Greeks there, who at the time were united in their opposition to British rule.
In these early days, Kennedy Martin was frustrated by the limitations of live TV, not only because of the sheer practical difficulty of shooting scenes in a single take, but because it constrained the artistic use of the medium.
The casting was perfect, with Bob Peck playing the archetypal Kennedy Martin hard copper, who turns out to have a soft centre, contrasted with Joanne Whalley as his innocent daughter who, it emerges, is not so innocent after all.

Edge of Darkness - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Edge of Darkness was written by the highly experienced Troy Kennedy Martin, previously responsible for creating the famous and long-running BBC police drama Z-Cars and for writing the screenplays for feature films such as The Italian Job and Kelly's Heroes.
Kennedy Martin originally wrote the script — then titled Magnox — in 1978, inspired by the Gaia concept, but it was not until 1982 that it took the interest of Jonathan Powell, then the BBC's head of drama series and serials, who assigned producer Michael Wearing to the project.
In addition to the script it has an introduction by Troy Kennedy Martin, and two appendices; the first gives the background to the story and fleshes out the backgrounds of the main characters, the second appendix has comments on the script by experts on Nuclear Power and Police Procedures.

 Review: The Italian Job
This latest film from director F. Gary Gray is one of the most satisfying renditions of the "caper film" in recent years.
Adapted by Donna and Wayne Powers from the original screenplay for the 1969 film of the same name by Troy Kennedy-Martin, this version moves the action from Turin, Italy to Los Angeles and creates a whole new sub-plot that adds interest and emotional texture to the story.
Gray is a director whose earlier genre films (Friday, Bring It On, A Man Apart), while competently directed, provided little outside the predictable, formulaic mold (although Bring It On's all-girl bank-robbing gang was an interesting twist).

Along with the stunts, there was Coward's urbanity, the laddish charm of Caine - still to become acquainted with the word sexism - and Troy Kennedy Martin's ability to write for both of them.
The producers of this version are calling it a "hommage", which is not so much a word any more as a verbal hold-all, routinely accommodating anything from unabashed larceny to a nod and a wink in the direction of the original.
In this case, it means they've appropriated the title, while speeding up the pace, Americanising the tone and re-writing Kennedy Martin's jokes for a computer-literate generation.

 Z Cars
Created by Troy Kennedy-Martin and Elwyn Jones, and produced by David Rose, the series brought a new realism to the genre as it featured day to day policing in Newtown, a fictitious town to the north of Liverpool.
At the spearhead of operations were the four police constables: "Jock" Weir, "Fancy" Smith, Bob Steele and Bert Lynch.
The image of policemen as fallible human beings created some controversy and for a time the Chief Inspector of Lancashire withdrew his support from the programme apprehensive that it might undermine public confidence in the police.

The incredibly durable cop show Z Cars (pronounced "Zed Cars") was one of the great guilty pleasures of British television -- a program which everyone watched, but no one would admit to watching.
Created by Troy Kennedy Martin, the series focused on a "typical" crime-ridden Liverpool police precinct.
The cars driven by the law-enforcement officers were all Ford Zephyrs, hence the series' title.

The DVD Journal | Quick Reviews: The Italian Job: Special Collector's Edition (1969)
The Italian Job is a heist picture, but not in the classic sense — it bears much less in common with Jules Dassin's Rififi (1955) than it does with the Ealing comedies from an earlier generation, in particular The Lavender Hill Mob (1951).
The young Michael Caine is perfectly cast with his trademark intensity and cockney swagger, and even he gets in a fun bit when he drops his well-known "common" accent for Oxbridge intonations whilst impersonating a wealthy Lord.
And that's what makes the use of Mini Coopers so inspired — anybody who has ever been inside one of these utilitarian petrol-sippers knows they have about as much in common with a classic sportscar as a lawnmower.
