Troy Eugene Percival (born August 9, 1969 in Fontana, California) is a Major League Baseball closer who is under contract with the Detroit Tigers.
Percival attended the University of California, Riverside and was drafted by the then California Angels in the 6th round of the 1990 amateur draft as a catcher.
Percival's contract with the Angels expired in 2004 and he bacame free agent at the end of that season.

Not that I think Troy is really good, but we don't know that other players look at these guys the same way that we do, from a performance-based standpoint.
One of the other ways I see this is that, taking Lee Sinins' measure of RSAA and applying it as an average per inning for those with a minimum threshold of saves, Troy Percival ranks among the top terciles in the past 10 years, 5 years and even last year.
He got a lot of help from the Angels' defense last year, but my point is that Percival may possibly keep up that level of production, make some gains in the K/9 area, and actually make him worth the signing on its own merits.
