The Township of Troy, established in 1815, was one of the first townships in Bradford County established by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
Nestled in a valley between the sheltering Endless Mountains, Troy is the center of a rural agricultural area of gently rolling fields and pastures.
Because of the difficulty of traveling to the courthouse in Towanda from the western side of Bradford County by horse and buggy, the state legislature passed a law in 1870 naming Troy a Half-Shire town with the right to hold court sessions twice a year.

The Honorable John C. Mott, Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Bradford County, Pennsylvania, was born the son of Charles S. and H. Grace Spencer Mott on May 23, 1955 in LeRoy Township, Bradford County, Pennsylvania.
Before assuming the Bench of Bradford County, Judge Mott was a partner in the Canton-Troy law firm of Vineski, Brann, Williams, Caldwell and Mott, and he had a very active legal practice in that firm's offices in both Canton and Troy, Pennsylvania.
Judge Mott was sworn-in as Judge of the Court of Common Pleas of Bradford County in January, 1988, after having been elected to the position in the November, 1987 election, in which he ran unopposed.

Due to the maximum term of imprisonment provided by Pennsylvania law for the offense to which Dieffenbach pleaded guilty, any term of imprisonment ordered by the sentencing court must be served in the Bradford County Correctional Facility.
Garry W. Hizer, 56, of 121 Fiscus Lane, Jeannette, Pa., was sentenced to imprisonment in the Bradford County Correctional Facility for a minimum term of six months and a maximum term of 18 months, and a fine of $1,500, for the offense of driving under the influence of alcohol, a misdemeanor of the first degree.
Timothy Gillespie, 37, of Troy was sentenced to a minimum term of incarceration of eight months and a maximum term of incarceration of 24 months to be served in a state correctional facility, upon conviction of false reports, a misdemeanor of the second degree.
