The Lorax - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The book is commonly recognized as a parable concerning industrialized society, using the literary element of personification to give life to industry as the Once-ler (whose face is never shown in all of the story's illustrations) and to the environment as the Lorax.
Discovering the potential for profit in a lush forest of Truffula trees, the Once-ler began clearcutting it to mass-market Thneeds made from the Truffula tree tufts.
The Lorax vehemently protested the destruction of the Truffula forest, stating that the Once-ler was crazy with greed and that his business was destroying the Truffula ecosystem, causing mass migrations of native fauna, including the bear-like Bar-ba-loots and species of fish and birds.

The trees are called Truffula trees, the fruit is called Truffula fruit, and the little animals are called Brown Bar-Ba-Loots.
The product made from the Truffula Trees is a Thneed, a product of infinite uses that the Once-ler claims "everybody needs." However, Dr. Seuss is seeming to imply that we're not supposed to listen to the Once-ler, and the Thneed is useless compared to leaving the Truffula Trees standing.
However, especially considering that the Once-ler gives the little boy the last Truffula seed at the end, I am utterly flabbergasted at the fact that, throughout the entire ordeal, the Once-ler never thought to plant more Truffula Trees to replace the ones he cut down, or, in fact, to *add* to the amount.

The tale is deceptively simple: a mother bird finds her tree, builds her nest, hatches three eggs into chicks, gathers food for her family, and eventually weans them from their nest to enter the world to make the life cycle begin again.
The bird lays the eggs, sees to the babies' needs, and teaches them how to survive on their own, but all the while the tree is there to shelter and sustain the little family, a less visible but very active participant in the whole child-rearing process.
