Details of Mr Trujillo's golden handshake were recently found by a Denver, Colorado-based lawyer among court documents relating to a case about shareholder dividends, and reported by US media outlets.
Mr Trujillo served as chief executive at US West from 1995 to 2000, after joining the newly-formed company after the US Department of Justice's break-up of the Bell monopoly in 1984.
