  Trunnion Design Ball Valves
Trunnion Design is simply the use of upper and lower supports to retain the ball under pressure.
Named for the "trunnion" historically used to support a cannon, a ball valve trunnion essentially doubles the safety and usability of a ball valve.
The trunnion on a three-way ball valve is a much different design, being more like a supporting ring, but provides the exact same function and inherent stability.

Artemis Project: Trunnion Pins and Scuff Plates
Trunnion pins are devices which anchor the payload to the launcher, in this case the Space Shuttle.
The trunnion pin is 3" in diameter and protrudes 9.5" past the scuff plate.
The trunnion pin is usually bright polished metal and the scuff plate is anodized a bright orangish yellow.

Trunnion and bracket for rollers - Patent 4729418   (Site not responding. Last check: )
A bracket and trunnion means hardware pair in accordance with claim 4 in which the axis of symmetry of said bracket intersects the axis of symmetry of said roller when said lug is engaged by either of said slots.
Mounting to the trunnion bracket is then achieved by lowering the second, trunnion end of the roller, until a feature on that end of the roller engages a mating feature on the trunnion bracket.
Having the trunnion rotatably mounted within a housing helps to insure a good bearing fit between the trunnion and the housing while the housing can be configured to be somewhat tolerant of variations of the size of the tubing.

Trunnion Design Explained   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Trunnion Design is simply the use of upper and lower supports to retain the ball under pressure.
Named for the "trunnion" historically used to support a cannon, a ball valve trunnion essentially doubles the safety and usability of a ball valve.
Another important benefit of the trunnion design is that it allows the True Blue Ball Valve to act as a true union: The downstream piping can be disconnected under full upstream pressure (user is responsible to ensure that downstream piping is drained of liquid and that valve is indeed closed and secured to upstream piping).

 Tire trunnion grinding
Sometimes, the trunnions and tires are simply too worn to do their job or the tires are scalloped so badly that the drum vibration is excessive.
Instead of shimming the drum frame as recommended, they moved the trunnions closer together which raised the burner end of the drum and caused the tire to ride at a bit of an angle to the trunnions thereby preventing full surface contact.
It is strongly recommended that the trunnion bearings be thoroughly greased after the grinding operations to flush out any grindings around the bearing seals that could be drawn inside the bearing as it cools down and pulls in expelled grease.

 WPS:AMC:Trunnion front suspension
Trunnions work well; even poorly maintained they last nearly forever (mine are 40 years old and still in fine condition) but are subtle and tricky to install right, and the information is simply not in the technical service manual.
The trunnion consists of a cast steel center cross with bronze bushing, two doubly-threaded cap nuts, a thrust bearing and assorted hardware; the steering knuckle is shown at the top of the photo.
The trunnion would work just fine, in the normal case, if the caps simply threaded into each A-arm half and the trunnion had plain bearings, but would catastrophically disassemble should upper or lower arm components fail, such as in an accident (or worse, be pre-stressed into later unexpected failure by a an earlier survived accident).

CNC may bring trunnion systems to a generation of contract manufacturers unfamiliar with this type of machine.

The difference is that the trunnion machine uses all of these tools at once and makes all of these moves simultaneously.

Happy Holidays From The Totally Triumph Network! - Front trunnion and vertical suspension link failure..
The trunnion itself was rigid on its bolt with absolutly no available movement to allow it to rotate as the wheel moves up and down.
When the trunnion is seized onto its bolt and the bolt is tight in the end of the wishbone the trunnion cannot rotate and stays rigid with the wishbone.
My experiences lead me to believe that advice on trunnion and front suspension maintenance probably needs to be updated and to direct more attention to the condition of the trunnion bushes and the thread on the vertical link as well as lubricating inside the trunnion itself.

Eriez Offers Free Trunnion Magnet Literature   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Positioned at the discharge end of the mill, the Trunnion Magnet consists of an arc of permanent magnets surrounding almost half of a blind trunnion extension.
As the trunnion rotates, the powerful magnetic circuit aggressively attracts and holds the steel balls to the inner surface of the trunnion.
The steel balls are carried to the top of the trunnion where the magnetic arc terminates, thereby releasing the balls, which subsequently fall into a hopper and chute.

Since the workpiece is stationary in the chuck jaws, the table indexes the workpiece to each machining unit which performs many types of operations (i.e., drilling, cross drilling, boring, turning, milling, external and internal recessing, threading, tapping, broaching, etc).
The Trunnion Machines are well suited for the manufacturing of small casting applications, irregularly-extruded bar stock parts and shafts from 1/2" to 12" in length.

Valve engineering - What does trunnion mean?
Another important benefit of the trunnion design is that it allows the Ball Valve to act as a true union: The downstream piping can be disconnected under full upstream pressure (user is responsible to ensure that downstream piping is drained of liquid and that valve is indeed closed and secured to upstream piping).
On the plus side, trunnion mounted balls have more assembled pre-load between the ball and seats, thus better low pressure sealing capabilities than floating ball designs.
Trunnion ball valves are better suited for larger sizes and higher pressures because the seat surface area exposed to the line pressure drop (amount of pressure assist) can be designed to whatever you want.

One assembly procedure, AP#1, cools the trunnion for a shrink fit into the hub, followed by cooling of the trunnion-hub assembly to shrink fit it into the girder.
Using AP#1, development of cracks on the hub was observed in one THG assembly, and, in yet another assembly, the trunnion got stuck in the hub before full insertion could take place.
In an alternative assembly procedure, AP#2, where the hub is shrink fitted into the girder first, followed by cooling the trunnion and shrink fitting it into the hub-girder assembly, the allowable crack length was determined to be double the allowable crack length of AP#1.
