Trustworthy Computing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
More recently, Microsoft has adopted the term Trustworthy Computing as the title of a company initiative to improve public trust in its own commercial offerings.
In large part, it is intended to address the concerns about the security and reliability of previous Microsoft Windows releases and, in part, to address general concerns about privacy and business practices.
This workshop assessed the challenges involved in developing trustworthy critical computer systems and recommended the use of formal methods as a solution.

One of the reasons there's been little debate about Trustworthy Computing is that no one -- including most Microsoft employees -- seems to know what it is. Even the company's public relations experts have trouble conveying Mundie's vision.
But besides fixing the notorious security holes in its Web servers and virus-prone desktop clients, the company is also pushing hard on a front that goes beyond its traditional role: Digital rights management, or DRM.
A trustworthy DRM system would extend Microsoft's role where pundits focused on Web services and wireless gadgets least expect -- right under their noses, on the PC.

Why we can't trust Microsoft's 'trustworthy' OS - TechUpdate - ZDNet   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-11)
Stung by criticism of its current offerings, Microsoft seems to be pinning its hopes for a truly "trustworthy" operating system on a future version of Windows, code-named Palladium.
While Levy says Palladium could start showing up as early as 2004, I'm betting most users won't start seeing it until 2006 or 2007--and then only if Microsoft is able to convince any number of organizations, governments, and even individuals that Palladium isn't more of privacy threat than a solution to privacy problems.
Microsoft has one key factor in its favor: the growing realization among its customers that we must do something, and that tomorrow's digital devices--and I'm talking much more than PCs here--need the trustworthiness that Microsoft claims Palladium will offer.
