Batsugun is a direct port of the 1993 Toaplan (Truxton, Twin Cobra, Fire Shark) arcade game.
Batsugun also offers a "Special Version" which is a remix of the original game.
Some of the enemies you'll face include small helicopter-type craft, small jets, tanks, robot walkers, aerial battle cruisers, etc. The Stage 4 boss is something really cool, You've got to see it for yourself...
As it may be difficult to find these games in their original form, a common way to play them now is usually in an arcade emulator such as Shark Emulator or MAME.
Other games from Toaplan include Tiger Heli, Flying Shark, Twin Cobra and Out Zone.
This establishment had a number of Toaplan arcade games, including Truxton 2, Vimana and the incredibly 'more-ish' Outzone.
In the spirit of Toaplan shooters from the 80's and early 90's Outzone is one tough cookie of a game.
Your task is to take command of one of two cyborg marines sent in to eradicate all the marauding alien scum from their homeworld - a region called the 'Outzone' - through 7 long and extremely challenging levels - complete with a full compliment of very tricky to defeat end-of-stage guardians.
Contra (for the NES) and Truxton (Genesis) really got me hooked on 2D scrolling shooters and so powerful was the draw to the genre I hunted down the likes of Galga and Space Invaders at the arcade.
As scrolling shooters go, Nanostray is as bright and colorful as any game the genre has to offer, but on occasion there’s so much eye-candy and motion that the action slows.
Nanostray may not take the genre in a radically different direction or even make for much more than a distraction for most, but it’s an extremely playable and enjoyable game.
