The setting for Tsing Yi Station and its associated railway viaducts is a hilly island of some 960ha, separated from the mainland of north-west Kowloon by an 300m-wide strip of water known as the Rambler Channel.
Unlike the other LAR stations to which Arup contributed, at Tsing Yi the podium is constructed almost entirely above ground on reclamation laid in the mid-1980s.
Tsing Yi followed an identical sequence with a similar test regime, which led to the acceptance of an increased pile capacity by the use of end-bearing and rock socket friction for compression loads.

Construction for this station was delayed for one year as government offices which sat on top of the station had to be removed to a new location before construction could start.

The Tsing Yi Viaducts are multi-level, multi-track structures linking the west end of Tsing Yi Station with the Tam Kon Shan tunnels, through which the Lantau Airport Railway connects with the Tsing Ma bridge.
Six individual tracks exit Tsing Yi Station, merging to become three tracks into three separate tunnels, with a viaduct configuration of 13 and 14 spans across a distance of 420m.
The piers, which are undoubtedly the single most visually-dominant feature of the project, were studied in detail and sculpted to add visual interest and lessen their impact on the surrounding neighbourhood.
