Ibaraki Prefecture is the northeastern part of the Kanto region, stretching between Tochigi Prefecture and the Pacific Ocean and bounded on the north and south by Fukushima Prefecture and Chiba Prefecture.
On October 16, 2004 the village of Gozenyama and the town of Yamagata from Higashiibaraki District merged with the villages of Miwa and Ogawa from Naka District forming the city of Hitachiomiya.
On February 1, 2005 the town of Johoku and village of Katsura from Higashiibaraki District merged with the village of Nanakai from Nishiibaraki District forming the town of Shirosato.

Basically, Yokohama is one of the big cities in Japan, but Asahi-ku, a small district of Yokohama where I brought up, had a lot of nature.
In 1990, I got into the University of Tsukuba as a student of the information science department.
The college is located in Ibaraki prefecture, so I had to move from Yokohama and start my own life apart from my parents and a brother.

TSUKUBA, Ibaraki -- The Tsukuba municipal government has decided to pull the plug on a wind generation project after spending hundreds of millions of yen on wind turbines designed by Waseda University that turned out to be a flop.
In April this year the Tsukuba Municipal Government filed a lawsuit in the Tokyo District Court demanding some 300 million yen in damages from Waseda University.

 Govt, Donen blamed over 1999 N-accident
A final report to be issued by the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency over the 1999 criticality accident in Ibaraki Prefecture will state that the government and the former Nuclear Fuel Development Corp. (Donen) should share responsibility for the disaster, sources said Sunday.
The report is to be compiled by a panel of the agency chaired by Hideki Nariai, a professor emeritus at Tsukuba University.
The ruling rejected claims by the defense that the government's sloppy safety checks and Donen's irresponsible award of a project to JCO were to blame, but the agency said their responsibility should be pointed out, according to the sources.

Starting in Tokyo, the Joban Expressway traverses Ibaraki from south to north.The Kita-Kanto Expressway will be connecting the Port of Hitachinaka with Tochigi and Gunma prefectures, and will hook with the Tohoku Expressway in around 2008.
Traversing the southern and western districts of the prefecture will be the Metropolitan Inter-City Expressway, which is slated for opening between Ushiku IC and Amihigashi IC in 2006.

To study the groundwater flow system bearing uranium, quasi-monthly water quality measurements for traditional-type observation wells and seasonal water quality and pore-pressure measurements using multi-packer system were done in the Kanamaru district, northeastern Japan, where uranium anomaly in Neogene sedimentary rocks was known.
Profiles of chemical parameters for water column of observatin wells show clear stratification especially in dry season, that is, stepwise change of lower pH and EC and higher DO and Eh in shallower part, and higher pH and EC and lower DO and Eh in deeper part.
