  Savage Earth: Waves of Destruction
The Japanese characters for tsunami mean "harbor wave," and many people commonly refer to them as tidal waves, but in reality tsunamis have little to do with tides.
Though wind-driven waves and swells are confined to a shallow layer near the ocean surface, a tsunami extends thousands of feet deep into the ocean.
This sometimes draws the curious to the shoreline and to their deaths, since the withdrawing of the sea is inevitably followed by the arrival of the crest of a tsunami wave.

A bore may also be formed when a tsunami wave enters a river channel, and may travel upstream penetrating to a greater distance inland than the general inundation.
Local or near-field tsunami has a very short travel time (30 minutes or less), mid-field or regional tsunami waves have travel times on the order of 30 minutes to 2 hours.
However, most tsunamis (initially) give the appearance of a fast-rising tide or fast-ebbing as they approach shore and only rarely as a near-vertical wall of water.

Damonk reviews Tsunami Channel!   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
Tsunami Channel is a mangart comic strip that focuses on the life of the unnamed Onii-chan (Japanese for "brother"), his 'sister' Kotone -- an android girl, and a tiny gaggle of supporting characters as they all go through the motions of a typical manga story, with all the standard trimmings.
Akira seems to have developed a slow flow in the last 70 strips, and the characters are getting to be a little more palatable, but he needs to stop using other writers' stuff and develop his OWN humour and story.
Just like a Tsunami, this comic generates the awe-inspiring beauty of the tidal wave -- it is a wondrous sight to behold.
