Tsuyama is located in the northern portion of Okayama Prefecture in the southwestern part of Honshu island.
Since the municipality was created in 1929, Tsuyama has developed as the base city of Okayama Prefecture`s northern area.
Tsuyama is full of such great treasures, from temples and shrines to traditional buildings with beautiful Japanese gardens.

Approximately 2000 years ago, wet paddy rice agriculture was introduced into the Tsuyama region.
Battles between competing warlords, each with absolute authority over his own landholdings and subjects, were frequent by the latter half of the 15th Century as this period developed into the age of civil wars.
After the abolition of Tokugawa shogunate in the late 19th Century, imperial rule was restored and the new Meiji government ordered the destruction of the castle.
