The Tu204 is a short- and medium haul airliner; development started 1985; the originally as Tu234 designated shortend version for distances till 9000 km is now known as Tu204-300 and had its first flight in Oct. 2004.

Consequently, SB 292 72 0151 was amended on 18 August 2000, to recommend removal of all TU204 modified blades, citing possible weight mass increases and suspected increased stress on the turbine blade root.

In November 1999 the Utah-Russia Institute brought the Russian-built Tupelov 204 (Tu204) commercial aircraft to Salt Lake City for its first ever exhibit in the West.
The aircraft came from Cairo, Egypt where it is in service with Air Cairo, owned by Sirroco Aerospace.
Sirocco has the exclusive marketing rights to the Tu204 with Western engines and avionics.
