The second annual Tubbercurry Literary Festival is to be held during Tubbercurry Old Fair Celebrations on Tuesday 7 August 2007.
Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce and Community Association representatives had a meeting last week with representatives of IDA, Enterprise Ireland, Sligo County Enterprise Board and Sligo County Council to discuss the future of enterprise in Tubbercurry.
Tubbercurry Chamber of Commerce and Industry had a very successful and enjoyable function in Cawleys Hotel last weekend at the launch of the new Tubbercurry website with guest of honour, Liam Scollan Managing Director Knock Airport.

Four sections of the department and parts of two others have now relocated to Tubbercurry, with two further sections due to relocate there on August 14th - by which time 64 staff will be located in the new offices.
Most of the staff now in Tubbercurry transferred from other departments in Dublin over the past seven months, and many have connections with the west of Ireland.
It is estimated the headquarters will transfer there from mid-2008 and, when completed, the staff in Tubbercurry will relocate, giving a total workforce of 140 in the new location.

 Western People: Fleadh Cheoil Chonnachta in Tubbercurry
The Tubbercurry branch is delighted to be chosen as hosts for this year's event, which coincides with the 50th anniversary celebrations of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann.
It is because of such traditions that the town of Tubbercurry, in South Sligo, seems the perfect place to host this year's Fleadh Chonnachta.
The weekend celebrations commence on Friday evening at 8.30pm in St. Brigid's hall with the official opening of the fleadh by Senator Labhrßs O'Murchu the Director General of the C.C.E. This will be followed by a tribute concert to the renowned flute and fiddle player Peter Horan.

Lough Gara, tucked away in the southernmost pocket of the county, is not as appealing as the map suggests it might be, having a very undramatic surrounding shoreline.

 Western People - 2003/01/29: Tubbercurry - Passed away in England
The death occurred of Jimmy Owens of Kent, England, and formerly of Chaffpool, Tubbercurry.
He was a brother of the late Johnny Owens of Chaffpool and Basta Ltd. He was returned home and reposed in Coen’s Funeral Home, Tubbercurry, with removal to St. Patrick’s Church, Moylough, where Solemn Requiem Mass was held on January 11, followed by burial in Rhue Cemetery.
In Tubbercurry, a group of young lads started a ‘skiffle group’ with mouth-organs, acoustic guitars and a broom handle to fill in for a double bass, an essential in such groups back then.

Mr Ó Cuív visited the staff in Tubbercurry this morning and said that he was highly impressed by their enthusiasm for their new jobs and for their new location in the west.
He said decentralisation 'works for the communities we serve, for the areas we are decentralising to, and for the thousands of civil servants who want to relocate'.

The name Tubbercurry itself comes from the Irish words Tobar meaning well and Choire meaning to stir or whirl....it is well known that there are many spring like wells or whirl pools in the area of Tubbercurry.
The town nestles at the foot of the Ox Mountains and the surrounding terrain is slightly rugged and hilly and names of the local townlands reflect this.
Of course this is testament to the fact that many placenames have changed their spellings over the years and this is attributed to the way they are pronounced and how information has been handed on from one generation to the next....students have researched the meaning of the name of their own local place or townland.

Veteran midfielder Paul Severs opened the scoring for the challengers after three minutes and they were five points clear before David Colleary got Calry/St. Joseph’s off the mark in the 10th minute.
A Tommy Gallagher goal for Calry in the 18th minute helped them to a 1-5 to 0-7 interval lead, but three unanswered points – two of which were scored by Severs – put Tubbercurry on their way to an 11th county title.

Sligo County Ploughing Association PRO John Farrell said that when the championships were last held in Tubbercurry in 1945 there were 32 teams of horses taking part.
